I'm not sure this is a requirement for this team anymore. - dt99999
I don't think that all of the criticism levied at Bergevin is warranted to be honest. People get hung up on so many insignificant things, it is ridiculous. The 91.9 callers are absolutely horrid and the "hosts" are just as bad. Gilbert "mou comme la marde" Delorme needs to be slapped. The fefans are just being fed a steady diet of Bergehate every day and they line up like pigs at a through. |

Nah dude honestly, his handling of the team is indefensible. |

The team is not better since Bergevin has been here. The window has closed if it was ever open. I fail to see how he helped this team.
Expecting Drouin to be a center, after trading a top prospect on defense that mtl could really use right now, expecting a sixth defenseman to play with Weber, signing Alzner while he was not really playing anymore in DC...Price at 10, 5...I could go on.
At least he is keeping his picks so far and did not sell the farm for ROR, something that some smart asses in here wanted him to do. |

Thing is if you look at some of his moves in a vacuum they look fine. But strong them together and its (frank)in pinball |

On certain levels or decisions, I would agree but even if he were to cure cancer, most of the fanbase would complain about all the doctors that would be out of work.

I am not really in a strong position to argue. I defended the Gomez trade the day it was made. |

I did not think that the Drouin trade was that bad at the time. I think Drouin could bounce back as well. But if you get a winger for a guy who has the potentiel to be a top defenseman (at least play on the top pair) you better get one hell of a winger....or a center.
Never got the Subban trade. It was not a good idea from the start to get older. I think Subban fit more the new NHL as well. I guess you could still argue that Weber has a few years left (when healthy). But some of his moves and where he saw the player play....how can you expect to win with that center line and that defense? Ok, Price was supposed to be better, but come on.... |

Injuries do play a significant factor, as does the coaching staff and player development. Not all bad decisions fall squarely at his feet. Sometimes, the player has to shoulder some of the blame.
Does it really matter that he is not coming out and saying it's a rebuild? Calling this an insult to the fans and the franchise is just a (frank)ing joke. The guy would get crucified no matter what he did.
Price bounces back next season and the conversation is quite different. A healthy Weber is also a significant step up over what we saw last year on D. Drouin is still young and should continue to develop. He was not the worst we have seen taking face offs. Price's contract is based on his status as a franchise player. The fact that he is a goaltender is irrelevant in my opinion. He is the face of the team and is paid like it. It is now on him to prove the team right in giving him this deal.
I am not pretending that this is a contending team or that Bergevin is the greatest GM to ever have the title. He could have landed Spezza and Seguin like Dallas did a few years ago. Did that translate into success? Did adding Radulov? People would still be clamouring for his head. |

They should be looking for the equivalent of Juulsen, Byron and a 1st for Pacioretty... Obviously not from a team that will most likely hold a lottery pick but from a contender, a 20-31 pick
Good D prospect, a player on his last year that can get you more picks at deadline time and the 1st |

True but the NHL is filled with deals and moves that leave you scratching your head years later. Vancouver trading Neely, Kordic for Courtnall, Garth Snow's tenure.......
With hindsight, Marc Bergevin either over valued the team on the ice and tried to go on a deep run riding a hot goalie. We all saw what happened when Price was Kriedered.
If he didn't trade some of those 2nd rounders for "character guys" or with the desire for the team to pull off a magical run, the team would obviously be in a better position now. At the time however, standing pat was not really an option. The team was having very strong regular seasons but could not find that additional gear in the playoffs. |

How come the Isles didn't get Matthews for Tavares? Seems odd NY didn't trade his rights considering the value they held, isn't it? - obie

His rights had no (frank)ing value at that point. You can't wait 100 years on a guy before you make a decision. |
