at least we don't cheer for the Leafs....looks like they will really struggle this year
The issue is that the Leafs probably have the weakest group of defensemen in the east after Montreal and the Islanders. That group may not even get you to the playoffs. If Dubas is intent on seeing where it goes with this group, I think it'll be a big mistake.
I don't believe the forward group is close either. Kucherov is the best hockey player in the world. Their depth runs 4 lines deep. Our 3rd and 4th line would be some team's first or second line. - Bolts91

I would give rejan houle another shot at this GM thing - Fredo
Rejean Houle, Bob Gainey, Pierre Gauthier, and Marc Bergevin. I dont know much about Savard, but have we had a competent GM in the last 40 years? |

the Leafs do still need an upgrade either in net or on defence. they remind me a bit of the Avalanche before they traded for Roy. |

Savard's teams always seemed to be pretty well stocked with talent but he was definitely the last good GM here. Houle was bad. Gainey was mediocre. Gauthier wasn't really here long enough to make a big impact. i would say Bergevin is the worst of the bunch. he has been here so long already and the club has seen nothing but a decline in talent at all levels of the organization. it's actually impressive how slowly he has run this thing into the ground. |

yes but steady goaltending behind an OK defence generally isn't good enough to win a Cup. |

or if they upgrade at goalie they might be able to get by with their defence as is. |

They need a pillar back there like a Marc Methot but they have some pretty good puck movers |

Price for Hyman, Jooris and McElhenny.
Throw in Gallagher to make sure they bite. |

I put Pacioretty there because I believe less and less he'll be moved from now till the start of the season
Also, Shaw, Byron and obviously Weber aren't there because they will miss the start of the season because of their respective surgeries. |
