I guess the plan could be to tank this year and hope to grab Hughes next year, but I'd really rather they play the long game instead. Even if he got Huges after next year, the D core (not to mention lack of #2 dman) and Price aren't getting any younger, and also Pacioretty will either walk in free agency or get a gnarly raise.
