If Dallas lands Karlsson, we should try and get Dallas to send us a good prospect while taking on Jason Spezza and his horrible cap hit for a year.

Might as well use that cap space.

Mathias Brunet wrote about it, I thought it was a good idea.

They won't have any good prospects left after a Karlsson deal.

It's only for a year too.... but it would make it possible for them to acquire Karlsson without being over the cap by ALOT.
- Scabeh

They can fit Karlsson in without moving anyone out and you have to think money will be going back in the Karlsson trade too

Well if they send Bobby Ryan with Karlsson, which most reports claim is the plan since the beginning, they're gonna need help.

Just read the piece. Spezza has a NTC. No way he comes here, one would think.

Yea, if Ryan goes with him than they'll have to move people out but they might give Spezza back to Ottawa in the deal

Sens will need contracts, as they might not even hit the cap floor. I can see them taking back Spezza as part of the deal just to make the cap hit floor be less of an issue.

Now to change topic, cause listing the habs roster is franking depressing, why is Toronto still paying Horton again ?

His contract was uninsured and it's still ongoing.

The Leafs traded David Clarkson and ended up losing the trade.

Unimaginable.

I don't believe Horton's contract counts against the cap once the season starts... He gets put on LTIR, it's just money, Toronto has plenty, Columbus needed a healthy body at that price

How? Saved them losing prospects/picks for Vegas to take him or the buyout. Horton's not on the cap.

that would suck because it means they are not really tied up with the cap, well not this year

Overall having one or the other had no impact on the cap or the roster situation.

Difference was Horton's contract not being insured so they just lost more money.

They're not... They need to get Nylander under contract, next summer will be a little trickier but Marleau will be coming off the books a year after

Getting tired of this media-blaming B.S. Athletes can and will play in tough cities - for a contender. The proof is in the pudding with Tavares. Statsny was not coming in MTL to be #1 centerman of a flailing team - not for $6 mil per year. The fault is entirely on the management.

Bergevin came in place with a relatively solid group of young players in place. He's been here for enough year to see results, and the results are stagnant at best, negative at worse. Blaming the players for last season's debacle is just not going to solve the center line issues, the lack of depth and scoring and the Left flank gaping hole (caused by his management of assets and his staff lack of development, BTW).

Bergevin last 4 years, and I include this summer, have been underwhelming at best. His habit of getting bargain basement deals and ''low-cost/high-reward'' signing has sent the message through the league. He's wasted away three most productive years of his stars. The way he's dealt with players, especially veterans of a certain status during negotiation, has reinforced this. For instance, it would be easy to come up clear in Max's situation - but cryptic messages after cryptic messages do not help.

As of date, he is still using the same pattern as the last few summers, less the cosmetic changes of staff. Trading your most dangerous offensive weapon for a lesser player is not going to reinforce your firepower. Shopping your best scorer as he is doing right now, at the worse possible time (less than one year contract) is not going to provide you a good return.

What is cryptic in "I don't comment contract negotiations." ?

Just got a parking ticket. I was parked there for about 5 minutes, the (frank)ing cockroach had to be hiding in the bushes.
