Waiting to see what the final deal is. It does sound like NYR are the 3rd team involved to take cap space off TB's hands.
@TSNSimmer
My NHL sources tell me a Karlsson deal to Tampa is done, pending a call with the league office. @TSN1200

Rangers better be getting a haul out this.
Why would they help Tampa?? |

The important thing is it will somehow be Bowman's fault.
It would have to be for more than picks for the Rangers. TB's picks wouldn't be worth it to me.
Someone is getting Callahan and/or Coburn is my guess. |

They have to include some dollars, rumor was Kucherov.
If I'm the Rags, I'm asking for Kuch and I'd make sure Point was included. |

Obviously both teams have a good rapport as trade partners. I’m quite sure NYR are not “helping” TB but rather trading to help themselves.
I don’t get why every time a team is in need of a trade (whether it’s cap issues, pending ufa’s, trade request etc) people question why the other team is helping by trading with them. I can’t speak for any GM but I’m going to go out on a limb and say none of them ever engage in trade negotiations thinking they’re “helping” another team. They are in it to help themselves.
Now yes looks like this trade will help TB significantly but it’s not like NY is in a position to contend anytime soon so if they can make a deal that will help them reload why wouldn’t they? |

Kind of my point, just saying they should be getting a good haul to help facilitate the trade.
If its just picks, obviously that doesn't help the Bolts cap situation so it has to be players with some money, my point is I'd make sure I took advantage of the situation, that's all.
Everyone always comments how Stan has to always include sweeteners to make any deal, I'd be forcing Yzerman to give some extra also. |

Interesting, yet not surprising read.

I don't think they are better per se, but I'm struggling to see how they made themselves worse.
He references the goalie situation. Not getting into the pay or the NMC or whatever Ward got, but I think even if you say he was the worse goalie in the league, its hard to argue he is worse than who the Hawks through out there last year. |

Out - Duclair and Jurco
In - Kunitz, Manning and Ward
I agree that they're not worse but they're certainly not better...yet. |

I guess it depends on who he’s trading. A bad contract? Yeah there better be sweeteners in there! |

If the Rangers get both Kucherov and Point, then that's kind of dumb. Tampa could have just traded Kucherov-Point and whatever package they already had planned to Ottawa and been fine in term of cap for this year and next because they wouldn't have any other RFAs of merit to sign in that span. At most they would be topping off Stralman. |

Losing Kucherov to get Karlsson is a net zero to me. Adding Point would make it a loss for TB. That is a lot of offense to lose up front. |

My guess is they were included in this only because they didn't do anything to make themselves noticeably better and being that they are basically the same team they were last year (so far) that it's considered a step backwards. I think not only the fans, but may of the so-called experts were expecting the Hawks to make some big moves. I read an article by Elliotte Friedman some time back where he said the Hawks would not go through another season like last year and were prepared to make some big moves. I think a lot of people in and around the game are surprised by the Hawks relative inactivity thus far. Rocky's comments about there being changes if the team gets off to a slow start just adds to all the confusion. Originally, I took that to mean that Stan and Q would be shown the door, but with Bowman doing little to improve on last year's team at this point, I'm wondering if that wasn't meant as more of a warning shot to the well paid core to either start earning their money or they'll be moved along for picks and or younger players, so the Hawks can go full bore into a rebuild. Hence Rocky's statement that nothing lasts forever. |

Same. But had to comment on the slight ridiculousness of giving him up + Point. I could see if I squint why Tampa might think Kucherov has priced himself out and that the emergence of other forwards + all their prospects that they could afford to lose him, but not both him and Point. It's already stretching my belief, that would be crazy. And if it ever happened, Tampa would be fubared imo. |

Another fail by Bowman. Why would the team put their top euro-smurf prospect in the Canadian goon league? The kid will be lucky to ever play an NHL game now. - DarthKane
You got to be kidding a goon league? Where you can only fight 3 times before suspension? The whl is the only real tough league left with the ohl ushl and qjhl all adding stupid anti fighting rules. |

This is going to be a tough trade for Yzerman he never wants to give up anything of value. Very curious |

Why would Ottawa have any interest at all in Kucherov when he's going to be asking them for $10M after next season? The guys they would want are some combination of Sergachev, Cirelli, maybe Taylor Raddysh, maybe even the goalie Vasilesky.
I don't think there really is a deal to be made if Yzerman has to give up too many young kids. But he would dump Tyler Johnson in a heartbeat if necessary. |

Stan should be offering Boqvist for Karlsson. Why settle for a “Karlsson-type” when you can have the real deal? |

Boqvist, Seabrook, Hossas contract, conditional 2019 3rd (it becomes a 1st if he resigns with us or we win the Stanley cup)
Karlsson, 2019 7th |

I understand it was a bit ridiculous, my point (no pun intended) was just that if I'm the Rangers, and I'm the conduit that is needed for a team to become a theoretical super team, in my conference, that I've lost pretty much every trade I've ever made with them, this one time, I'm getting something really good out of it! These opportunities don't always present themselves.
Jeez, you guys, (and lady on a 5 day weekend), take everything so literal. |

Totally agree Darth. We can't lose Saad again. And we can't have the worst LW group in the league.
With regards to Stralman, he's a great shutdown defender with a decent amount of offensive ability. He gets very little PP time so his numbers will always be modest, especially with Hedman and McDonagh taking the lions share. Stralman was an unsung hero for NYR before he got traded, and most people have picked up how smart and efficient of a defender he is since then. He'd be one of the best shutdown replacements for Hammer outside of Marc-Edward Vlasic. - ObeseOprah
Stralman wasn't traded from the Rags to the Bolts he was a free agent and someone I've wanted the Hawks to get for a long time. Wanted them to sign Stralman in 14. I don't get why Stan didn't go after him - he's a swede afterall.
Completely agree on Saad hoping he's got a big bounceback season in him.
