If they acquire Karlsson They would have 9 D-men on the roster. (I assume one goes in return to Ottawa).

Plus Miller is the only forward without a NMC.

- ImThatGuy

Ok then make a rich prospect/draft pick offer for Stralman then. We’d have the 2nd best defense in the Atlantic behind the lightning

I can see both happening

Your going to have money Mitch Playing with JT lol he will kill it this year

And Matthews already knows what he’s worth I’m guessing he sees how the year goes and if he doesn’t like it ..him And Arizona will make an offer sheet that the leafs can’t match

If I was Arizona and Matthews I would wait for the big contract for Marner them do A massive offer sheet on that day

- gerbe75pts

That would be fun to watch, h
However assuming both are max in terms of RFA compensation of 4 1st round picks....
Could you imagine Toronto with 3 First Round Picks for 4 years in a row (theirs, plux 1 each from Yotes and Isles)...what a dynasty they could build...I would have to think hard about which one I would want)

Tampa has to make this work, they need a 3rd team with Cap space willing to eat Callahans deal.

Buffalo has no need to be in the deal.

But the initial apocalyptic meltdown that would occur when the Tronna fans realize they are losing their talisman (to a team in the desert no less!) would be oooooooo so worth it.

IT would be Callahan + Stralman

You give up poop for that, 3rd or 4th rd pick (Like the Sheary deal)

Good chance they wouldn’t be able to match a Matthews offer sheet if we gave one to Marner first and matched it so they may let him walk. I’m not a big offer sheet guy but his age fits core.

Sheary/Eichel/Marner
Nylander/mitts/Reinhart
Davidson/Berglund/Asplund
Pu/Rodriguez/Thompson

Dahlin/Risto
McCabe/Nelson
Guhle/?

Looks like a good lineup, improvements can be made, hopefully when prospects develop. buyout okposo with new CBA coming up. Trade scandella for futures. Won’t have 1st round picks in long time but still would have

Three 2019 1sts (one being high end)
2019 2nd rd
Scandella return
Samuelson
Oregan
Olofsson
Few others in pipeline.
All our money is in young elite talent

- Fattony1187

Guys...
the Leafs will definitely match offer sheets to Marner & Matthews, Nylander too
They aren’t letting these guys go for draft picks

Offer sheets could f*ck up their salary structure though, and keep them from filling out the roster with quality players
Probably keeps them from fixing their defense unless the young Swedes they drafted/signed work out

Gotcha!

I really think we should have upped the ante for Grabner.

- Cup Crazy '07

I agree
Speed & can score
Perfect fit

And it’s not like he went to a contender...
We probably could’ve had him if we just upped the offer to 3.5 or 3.75 per season

Oh well

"a solid top 6/potentially top 4 d-man" were my exact words...and btw McCabe has a very real shot at being in the top 4 for Columbus

Girgs and Baptiste are two guys who show flashes of potential and play a torts type of game (non-stop max effort)

All that being said...you've glossed over TWO first round picks...with the option of 1 becoming a non-lottery-protected 2020 pick.....and Nylander.

Would we have to tweek the offer a bit to get C-bus to bite? Probably. But we get Eichel his winger and C-bus gets rid of a guy who doesn't want to stay there and acquires a significant haul that can help them both short term (McCabe, Girgs, Baptiste) and long term (Nylander, 1st rounders). How is that not a win-win for both teams?

- feetontheair22

I'm not glossing over the firsts, as they are huge pieces. But if I'm Columbus, I'm telling you to try again with the 2 forwards. Those guys are fringe NHLers at this point. Maybe Columbus views them differently, but I'm sure "flashes" aren't what they're looking for. Just my opinion.

The owner is the worst thing for that franchise he is cheap as they come

You say at least they offered him 10m ? That’s throwing dirt in his face

- gerbe75pts

I don't care who you are 10 mill a year to play hockey is the farthest thing from throwing dirt in his face.
An offer of 5-6, something really lowball yes, but come on 10 mill is stupid money.

Why would Callahan (or any of these guys) waive their NTC/NMC to leave though?

I know I’d wanna stay with Tampa

Stralman could be a perfect partner for Dahlin

When Tampa got him, is when Hedman took that big leap forward
Maybe that was just coincidence,
but they were paired together & it worked great

Callahan has a 16 team list. I mentioned before that Buffalo may be on his list, because he is from the Rochester area (kind of like Gionta coming here.) If we could get someone like Boris Katchouk, then it's worth taking on Cally's salary for 2 years.

That's why JT Miller makes the most sense to move, he does not have a clause to deal with.

This type of thing might be a prime opportunity to pry some assets from the lightning once they put another 11M on the books in EK

I know he plays RW, but what does it take to get Kucherov out of Tampa, they will have no way of affording him if EK signs

- Shadman306

8.5-9.0 mil is roughly the same as 11mil after taxes in other places
So Tampa can probably get him for under 10mil per

Kucherov isn’t going anywhere
They’ll find a way to move other contracts off the books
And they’ll probably get him to take under 10mil per as well

The no tax thing down there is a big advantage for them

My bad
Didn’t realize he had a list

Yeah, I’m ok with taking on a bad contract if the other player we’d get is good enough

The other day i was suggesting we take Bobby Ryan’s from Ottawa, so we could get a big discount on Stone
