We’d still have to move 4 guys off the current roster

I just don’t see it happening

And frankly,
I don’t understand why ppl are trying to push him into the lineup

Smith had a “good” year last season,
not a “great” one
And Botts wants Rochester to be successful
So leaving him & others down there makes sense in that respect as well

Smith would have to be significantly better than others at camp
It’s possible, but i don’t think you’d get to see him enough for that to happen in such a short time

If we start moving forwards out,
then MAYBE

Not sure you know how that works. They'll say, we want to trade you and Buffalo wants you, and he'll realize they dont want him anymore, and he agrees to a trade. And he'll totally come home to provide leadership to a squad that's "close"

Take Bobby Ryan as well to get a deal

Send a 1st (not ours)
Send them a couple forwards we are done with like Larsson &/or Girgs
Add another pick or prospect if needed

Taking Ryan’s contract should get us quite the discount
And we would probably only be stuck with it for 2yrs, then the lockout & we can just buy him out without being penalized on the Cap
