If Kane was whitebread, or better yet a solid vet leader, yet still had the exact same on ice talent and abilities, I'm still unsure. I don't think a lot of franchises see him as a 7M x 7 yr player.

Granted, if he had that solid off ice quality, perhaps the team wouldn't mind throwing him an extra million.

The injuries and the one-way play play a factor into it as well.. coupled with the need for a change in "dynamic"

I do not see why not. Everyone likes kanes on ice effort and unique speed/ power/ toughness

If SJ had no issue with offering him that contract and with the need we have on LW and the cap space, I would think we could have attempted to re-sign him. Providing of course he was a model citizen off the ice, which he wasn't unfortunately. I don't know if we would have gone 7 per though.
