I think people are ruling out moving Giroux, which I think is silly. Could be wrong, absolutely but of course that depends on the health of this team or how well our centers hold up. I think Giroux is an average two way center but if he wins the draw and we’re playing with the puck rather than away from it, we’re in good shape no matter where he plays. |

Giroux is an above-average two-way center, but nowhere near Selke level. You want him playing in the o-zone as much as possible.
I think moving him back to center is a bad idea, assuming Couturier and Patrick don't go down long-term. But, especially, if Couturier goes down, you need to consider it. |

Here are the reasons I think they will keep Giroux at center:
1. He had perhaps his best year ever playing LW
2. With Couturier and Patrick in the lineup, there is no need for another top 6 center
3. He will see less wear and tear at the wing position which is very important as he gets older. Wingers, generally, don't have to play as deep in the D zone or in the D zone trenches as much as centers do.
Could he be moved to center at some point this season if Couturier or Patrick goes down long term? Sure, anything is possible. But beyond this season, with Frost and Vorobyev likely ready to step up by 19-20 as your 3rd and 4th centers, I don't think you will ever see it again.

G is a LW save for major injuries occusing to our Centers. The guy turned his career around and had the best year of said career at LW. He can still take faceoffs and rotate to wing. (He did that a lot last year.) But preemptive talk of moving him back to center because you're not happy with the 3C situation is just asinine.
There's also the whole thing where Coots really took off while playing with him too... |

Was catching up on yesterdays thread and saw this:
I would think its almost a certainty that the Seattle expansion draft will be summer 2020. Meaning anyone from the NHL and AHL last season are eligible, and anyone that was in juniors last season is exempt, no matter if they remain in juniors this season, or move to the NHL or are now moving to the AHL. So Frost will be exempt regardless.
Going to be real interesting to see what happens if both Sanheim and Myers have breakout NHL seasons in the next 2 years, as all of Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, Myers, Hagg, and Morin will be eligible. - pinkfloydfreak
Flyers might opt for the 8-skater protection option (Giroux, Patrick, Couturier, JVR or Voracek, Provorov, Gostisbehere, plus two among Sanheim, Myers, Morin or Hägg).

Between the 2020 expansion draft and him being a little light still, I have no problems keeping Frost in juniors. Go play the wjc, set the world on fire, keep that confidence rolling, refine play away from the puck, put on a few more pounds, and prolong your pro career by a year so you don't need to be protected.
Juniors it is boys. Outside chance he makes it imo. Very outside chance. |

Gotta protect Konency over JVR if you go 4/4. He's eight years younger. |

I can see them doing that as well. At the end of the day, you are only going to lose 1 player. The only irreplaceable players eligible to take by 2020 are likely to be Provorov, Ghost, Patrick and Couturier. You aren't going to lose any of those 4 so I really wouldn't lose that much sleep over it. |

I honestly think we're just going to be one of those teams that trades a 1st instead of letting a player be taken in this next expansion. With the players we'll likely have to expose it's probably the best move just to give the new team a pick.
Hell, maybe you even trade the expansion team JVR that year in lieu of them selecting a player from us. Then plug Farabee in as the 2LW. |

A 2020 ED doesn't affect Frost. He'll be exempt whether he plays 164 NHL games the next two seasons, zero, or any number in between. |

Agreed, odds are, if they go with 8, it will be:
Giroux
Patrick
Couturier
Konecny
Provorov
Ghost
Sanheim
Myers
OTOH, there is no guarantee that Myers will be a guy they feel it's critical to protect and we don't know how future trades and/or injuries will change things. It's pretty much pointless to worry about this now.

My main worry is that the new team won't be called the Seattle Frasiers, when that would be the best nickname in sports. |

I have a feeling they'll try moving a 1st to have Seattle pick someone less valuable.
Also, if Myers/Morin/Hagg don't turn out to be what we expect (or at least what the Flyers expect), they could go with the 6/3/1, which would let them protect Voracek and JvR. |

You (accidentally, I assume) left out Konecny. I don't really see any way the 8 skaters would work, as we'd be stuck with a very good 2nd line forward (or two) unprotected. Even in a horrible scenario of JVR playing awful the next 2 seasons and not being worth his contract, you'd have to pick another forward out of Giroux, Voracek, Patrick, Couturier, Konecny to also leave unprotected.

Even if Myers isn't critical to protect, what are the odds that all 3 of Myers, Hagg, and Morin are all not important to protect?
I agree that I'm not "worried" about it, and changes to the roster that we can't anticipate will happen. Still interesting to consider what might happen. |

He is already pretty good without the puck in terms of going to the right spots. But his line had the puck pretty much constantly -- which was the biggest reason he posted a CHL-leading (not just OHL) plus-70 last season. In the playoffs, he got outmuscled a bit by the bigger forwards he went up against. |

Another year in Junior and the experience of the WJC won't hurt Frost in the least and it's by far the most likely scenario.

I'd still like to see him as our 4C. He is solid, but there's times where he looks like he "spaces out" on the ice and doesn't know where to go with the puck. |
