I guess I am going to be that guy. Not directed at you specifically, but why is it such a laughing matter to give a poop about the environment? Do we really need to continue using plastic bags that are used for what, all of 15 seconds? Or plastic straws that are completely unnecessary? Pardon me for thinking that we can grow and evolve as a species and strive to do better than "what we've always done".

Concluding that because I like straws I don't care about the environment is your first mistake.

My main worry is that the new team won't be called the Seattle Frasiers, when that would be the best nickname in sports.

Re Vecchs: I just don't see him as ever being more than an AHL/NHL tweener ala Peter White or, going further back, Tim Tookey. He just doesn't have the elite skills to overcome his deficits in the skating dept where he is mediocre at best. He's not a kid, I believe he's 25 so you are pretty much seeing him in his prime at this point.

Vorobyev, OTOH, should at least be a solid 4C and potentially could develop into a 3C at the NHL level. He's a better skater than Vecchione, just as skilled and bigger. He also plays a more complete defensive game from what I've seen of both.

- BiggE

The little I've seen of Vorobyev, seems like he has above average IQ... would like to see what he can do with 2 NHL caliber wingers... hoping he made enough progress last year and can slot in at 3C/4C

Like I said, not necessarily directed at you, that said, plastic and plastic straws are not good for the environment. IMO the banning of plastic straws in Seattle is a step in the right direction, not really something that should be the butt of jokes. And I totally understand why or how some people will think I am being extreme, but this is where I stand.

Because recycled paper straws work for a good 30 seconds before they clog up.

I agree with you on the straws thing but the bigger issue for the environment is over population. I went scuba diving about 4 hours off the coast of Nassau in Feb. Stopped at some random ass island. Garbage found quite easily along the shore. Just sad really.

Good luck telling people they can only have one kid though.

I'm fairly certain there are one or two (maybe THREE!) posters on here who would insist that they have never ever made a single mistake in their lives.

For my own wild curiosity. Does anyone really need straws?

They give them to me in my rum/cokes but I just take them out.

Take away the welfare, food stamps, tax benefits and let’s see what it does to birth rates

What kind of plastic? All kinds? NHL jerseys are plastic.

That said, I'm fine with finding alternatives, but please spare me the bile for using and liking plastic straws, bottles, and bags.

My daughter certainly makes good use of them. I use them if I'm drinking a milkshake or smoothie.

I’d argue that the kids highly rich folks have cost the environment more than those of the poor.

Although I do get your point.

All I read here was, "I'm a terrible person and (frank) the environment."

Now man up, start wearing clothing made exclusively of hemp (if you need to wear clothing at all) and start hugging trees like a good flower child.
