If your younger cheaper player can't beat out a fourth liner is it really worth b1tching about?
- VANTEL

Whoops accidentally flagged you.

We both know when it comes to a player like him it's not about beating him out of a spot.

Also, for what it's worth I was suggesting we take on the Hossa contract in a scenario where MDZ Gudbranson and Gagner are all off the team

Fantasy v Reality

The argument (not you ) by the general public is that Canucks gifted Beagle a spot. The reality is he may be taking it away right now from a guy like Goldobin who has not earned it yet or Gaunce who is just wow . If a player is really better then they will win the spot.

You make it sound like Beagle will be competing for a job now and in the future, but that just isn't realistic

There will more than likely not be a need to fight for a spot. The good players like Boeser Horvat Pettersson Virtanen all have spots . When you come to me with guys like Goldobin Baertschi Granlund Gaunce Dahlen Leipsic Motte Palmu Gadjovich Boucher Lind Gaudette . These guys are all years away for being impact players. Some won't even be NHL regulars

Maybe not, but you have to give them the opportunity to become NHL regulars, Beagle could end up being a barrier against that. Some guys don't bust into the league outplaying half the roster. Some guys need to have a team take a chance on them and give them the opportunity to improve with less resistance

Bull crap . Do you think if we drafted Zadina this year he would have been told to play in Jr another year because his spot is currently filled by Gagner? Come on.

You are talking about a bunch of maybes over a proven NHL player. If the player is good enough the will give him a spot

Zadina's a poor example because not every player comes to the NHL ready to play 2nd line minutes. Many need to be eased in.

This would have been negoiated by the player and team agreed upon afterwards. This had nothing to do with the hearing which states one-year deal.
- Eldebrink

I thought the contract had everything to do with the hearing. Canadiens wanted to only pay him 5.5 on a one year, Subban looking for 8.5 on a one year.

They settled on 8 years at 8.5. It looks like MTL realized the ruling would likely be around the 8.5 and said feck it, we may as well lock him up for 8 years. - I am sure this is Exactly went down.

The only forwards close to being ready are Dahlen and Gaudette. A year in Utica will do them really well. When they dominate on the Comets then bring them in.

You could just as easily put the three new guys in this same category. None of them are impact players. I have nothing against these players, or their contracts, what I'm disapointed with is that the organization keeps saying one thing and doing another.

"The NHL is changing, speed and skill are where we're headed. We are going to be a very young team this year" *signs old players to long term deals*

I also don't like that Benning paid top dollar for average players. Rick D keeps going on and on about the market, and how many teams. There were 20 smarter GM's out there on July 1st, and 10 who got lucky they picked Vancouver. It's like fighting over a big screen TV at Wallmart on Black Friday when instead you could have just shopped online and got the same deal.

Literally just trade everyone else. Just get rid of them.

You have to include eriksson and gagner, else it's just cheating. I'm guessing that Stecher gets awarded an 12 x 8 by the arbitrator for this to work in the cap world

Gagner could probably be traded for peanuts, I did include Eriksson

20 Other smarter GMs also don't have Gaunce Dowd and Motte as your fourth line .

You want to keep bringing back these bargain basement players and then wonder why you take a beating every year.

I think they should both play in the NHL. Dahlen's developed for two years, Gaudette three, also Juolevi two years, let em play.

Well Ryan Johnson who is GM of the Comets said Dahlen had an eye opening experience. He said he will be a good player but he needs some more time. I will listen to his advice.

Benning said Gaudeete will probably be on the Canucks

I can see Dahlen needing a year in Utica. Gaudette and Juolevi should both be in Van but I think with the logjam we have one or both will end up in the minors

Sutter, Granlund and Gaunce "were" the 4th line. Dowd signed elsewhere, Mott will play in the AHL, likely for ever. Making these guys your 3rd line because you over paid "real" 4th line NHLers isnt going to stop this team from taking a beating in my opinion.

If they move Gagner and Eriksson, I'll shut up about it

Well lucky enough we don't have any shut down center prospect in the system that we can bring in for a few years. We could always call back Cole Cassels

Never seen anything from RJ on Dahlen, he's played against men in a pro league for the past two years. Just think they should see what he's got at the NHL level.
