If it was only that easy though
Not too many of those guys around,
let alone “available” - jdfitz77
The closest to that would be Jamie Benn imo
And we all know he's not available :/ |

I honestly don't know any others unless we trade for Chris Kreider which I don't see that happening |

Ya, never said it was easy, lol.
The team needs serious bonding to get guys to buy in now.
If they can move Risto off the suspect list, to be part of a solid leadership core group it would be a huge step. |

Here we go with the trade Risto comments. This makes complete sense to me - trade from a position of extreme weakness (RD) and make us even weaker. 3 weeks into your season, Casey Nelson is your top RD and Borgen is playing in the Top 4.
- SabreWest
Yeah, agreed
I’d feel much better about trading Risto (maybe) next summer
Maybe Dahlin is comfortable enough on the right
Maybe Nelson is steady enough for top4
And maybe Borgen is ready for NHL duty
I’d feel A LOT better if we just waited a season to have a better idea of any/all of that is the case

Ok...
but if he doesn’t shape up,
can we at least trade him for another good RH defenseman then?
We can’t go into the season with only Bogosian & Nelson as our only guys on the right |

You say that but I believe with better development they could have been better players and who knows what they could have been
If Gus would have gone to college his game might have developed he might have been a Ryan Kesler type he was supposed to be
I just think development is very important to players to reach the next level as many know I hate the AHL I would rather have players develop in college or overseas - gerbe75pts
The problem with girgorenko was he was 27 when we drafted and already on the down side of his career |

Phil Housley did in fact play forward early in his career, I am sure if Housley and GMJB ask Guhle if he wanted to try to make the Sabres as a left wing or ride the bus in Rochester, which would a sane man choose? He is more than talented enough to make the switch, it is much easier for a Defenseman to become a forward then it is the other way around. He would certainly understand the defensive responsibilities of the position. If it doesn't work out in camp then he goes to Rochester to resume his development at D. If Thompson is going to be on the Sabres he needs to be with Eichel or Mitts, let's see what the kid is made of, if not he should be playing top line minutes in Rochester. - macman9

You have it backward.
Good attitude breads winning.
Even if what you say is right for some players, are those the type to build a team with...only pkkay well when winning...crumble like stale cookies when confront with an adverse environment ... like needing to wing game 7 after losing game 6.
Nope, not FOR me.
Bring me the Messier types who will their team to win. - IonSabres

he said it would have nothing to do with the team it would have to do Columbus lol
So I think we would be in the same situation - gerbe75pts
Which is idiotic. He's got his whole life to live anywhere he wants, if he likes the coach and team, go/stay there, make a poopload of money and then when you retire at 34 go and live your life. |

Not directed at yoh specifically.
Team has sucked for years, finished 31st last year, his game has regressed, so he didn't help the situation. Then puts in minimal effort to help correct the situation.
No leadership, no accountability, a true culture oif losing.
I wouldn't be crying IF they ever dealthim...assuming they got fair value in return.
At the same time, I'd like to give him a new start with a new locker room to see what he can do.
Definately not part of the core if he continues to be difficult, aloof as reported now by three of the local media types who cover the team daily. ... but hey, Buzzards know better from behind their computers, smh. - IonSabres

Well, we need them for sure, no argument there.
Very rare for teams to trade Position/side for same position/side....so my gut says that is going to be tough
I want Risto to work out to be sure...he still has time. But if he is just here for the beer so to speak and not committed 100% to winning SC's ... meh, byebye. |

Chicken.
It was a form of genetic transformation, a mutation from another species.
Most likely it's close cousin, the Mamoth Elephant. |

That's my point, he already has a great on-ice life, and by chasing the big city lights will likely bite him on the ass and he'll be doubly miserable. |

Good poinbt made on NHL Radio.
If it is true that he is seeking larger cities, then there is likely a larger group of Russian Immigrants who have settled there, making him more comfortable there.
Who knows?
