I know Detroit wants some cap space, but a big part of a deal would be some value for taking that space. Sure Zetterberg has had a storied career, but I don't care about his past right now.
If Flyers are trading a valued prospect, I'd rather have Nyquist knowing he has 1 year left and looking for a reasonable extension before Zetts.
EDIT:
Giroux-Couturier-Konecny
JvR-Patrick-Voracek
Lindblom-Nyquist-Simmonds
Weal-Laughton-Raffl
Leier
Vecchione
Trash Bin: Weise, Lehtera
Now that would be sexy...don't look at the goaltenders... - Glak18
Not only is Nyquist not a center, he’s a top six forward. If he doesn’t put up points, he’s useless. |

Katchouk and Raddysh are both great prospects. - Feanor
Exactly. I’d do that trade. Tampa won’t though.
Those two are excellent prospects, a 2nd, and if you got anything out of Callahan, especially on the penalty kill.... it could be a steal. |

Understood and I respect your opinion on those prospects.
My issues is more with taking on another overpaid veteran player who is beyond usefulness.
First, there was RJ Umberger. I thought he'd be marginally useful, even at his AAV. He was not.
Then, there was Val Filppula. I can appreciate that he tried. But really, he got caved in.
Then, we had Jori Lehtera. I mean, I have no idea how this dude scored that contract. At least I saw Filppula and Umberger do really good things at points during their career. No idea how Lehtera scored that deal.
I just don't want anyone else's cap trash at this point of Hextall's management. Ryan Callahan is a shot player to me. |

Are the Phillies this good or does the NL just blow?
Honest question. I watch them and Nola and Hoskins are basically the only guys I fully believe in on the entire roster. (I like Herrera and Franco too but when they're off they're really off) |

Idk what we would even do with Callahan tbh. Is he legitimately better than any of our wingers at this point? And on top of that we have some wingers pushing for a shot with the big club. I just don't see it being a fit. |

At this stage of the team's development, he'd be hurting more than helping IMO. |

That's fine, but you said the only reason they were mentioned were because they played with Frost, while the truth is that, after Foote who would go in an EK deal, they're TB's best prospects, and 2 very highly-regarded ones.
But as you so non-overreactingly implied, I'm sure they'll both be no better than Gilbert Dionne. - jmatchett383

Umberger didn't have much left but I think that is completely different than Filppula, who did exactly what he was acquired for and helped the Flyers while he was here. Lehtera is a useful role player and provides veteran depth.

Well, the word "helped" is relative, with respect to Filppula. I respect his contribution. He tried.
Lehtera makes too much money for what he actually provides and I understand why Hextall took that contract on (*looks lovingly at Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee*). I'm sure Lehtera is also a super nice guy. He's not worth his AAV. |

Filppula did more than try. He took on a lot of the heavy lifting and responsibilities so other players would be freed up from them. He filled a need that the team had and it had a positive effect. Lehtera was never going to meet that contract here. Doesn't mean that he doesn't have some usefulness to the team. Hopefully if he sees significant game action, he can at least provide some offense in addition to his reliable play without the puck.

He helped other players not score too much thus making them cheaper for us to resign later. Team player |

Think people have just seen a lot of Raddysh and Katchouk playing alongside Morgan Frost, so there's some built in crushing there.
But yeah, that AAV and the term jutting into Provorov's new deal...
(and f giving Hak another bowl of grits to overplay) |

I understood taking other people's trash while we were sorting out our own cap problems, building up our previously horrible prospect pipeline, etc.
But taking on a dude like Callahan (5.8M AAV for 18 gritty points) seems like a bad idea while we still have Jori Lehtera around.
And while I've largely defended Hakstol....playing a less talented good soldier is a coaching weakness of his. He'd play the (frank) out of Callahan, regardless of what Callahan still has left. |

Is that really you?
If you had been invited to Claude Giroux's wedding, you could have gotten in on the bridesmaids, who might also like soulless gingers. Total missed opportunity.
