Stats are useless without combining them with the "eyeball test."
Justin Falk's stats are nothing to write home about...but he sure as poop shut down McDavid both times he played against him. Does that mean Falk is an Allstar? No. It just means stats are only half the story. - feetontheair22
I saw a GAR graph on SB Nation that showed offseason additions for each team...we were 2nd only to St Louis and Carter Hutton meant more to us than Tavares did to the Leafs...yeah it's a flawed system. There are some things to learn from adv stats but I could do without half of it at least.

Yes, like I said, RoR is fine for now. He would have been fine for another year, but his contract is for 5 more years and if you were to watch him, you'd see his how the game is passing him by and his production will be dwindling soon.
So we took some salary back for him, it's better than being stuck with his contract for five more years. Sabodka can be bought out in a year if need be, and Berglund isn't a bad player. They're both off our books before RoR's contract ends. - sskkoo1
Bottom line
Sabres took on 22.5 mil in salary and shipped out 32.5 mil plus got two picks.
2 players that can play now with one that might be ready now for a guy that didn’t fit here anymore.
Asset management 101, save real money and get futures that will come in handy.

It struggles when comparing players to goalies, that's for sure. In fairness, comparing a backup goalie to a 1st line center isn't an easy thing to do.

I just think it's worse than that, it isn't easy to do it is impossible. There are too many factors that a lot of these statistics leave out. I don't blame folks for creating and even casually referring to these types of stats, but it should be understood that there are numerous variables these things cannot project or account for.

Right, all of this is true. But you are taking this too literally.
My eyeballs told me out top 6 outside of Eichel, Kane’s first 15 games, and the second half of Reinhart sucked balls for a lot of last year. I said that without looking at s single chart. This backs up what I saw. It’s not a final conclusion. It’s a tool.
What bothers me is when someone will look or site one single statistic like points as an end all be all, but won’t even take into consideration a statistic that factors in many different measurements. |

Yea, it got so bad that in the second half of the year when Eichel wasn't on the ice i had a hard time forcing myself to pay attention until his line went back out there |

Vlad Guerrero jr called up to the Bisons if anyone is interested in Baseball. Be nice to see a future star play in Buffalo for a couple games. |

Berglund is not a dump, he scored 17 goals last year for 3MM. Sobodka is a dump yes, but Buffalo also needs a better 4th line.
Thompson is intriguing and the kid is only 20 years old, former 1st round pick with a cannon of a shot. He'll get his chance. Kyrou and Thomas were untouchable as Thomas is one of the best prospects in the entire NHL, those asks were unresonable.
Also a first and second round pick.
I'm fine with the Value, I think ROR is a fake person and was an issue in the room.
Hes had issues with Colorado and now Buffalo. Every team he has been on has been garbage, where he was supposed to be the voice and the leader. Is that just coincidence?
Add - ROR as a 5 on 5 scorer is ranked 161st over the last two years. Behind Berglund and Sobodka. He is good on the Power play though. - ImThatGuy

I agree that dealing in absolutes rarely works out, it's just that I see so many glaring issues with the generation of these reports. If there was a plausible way to factor in all the variables necessary I would probably binge on statistics all day long, the issue is there are way too many outliers and missed variables for the results to be deemed accurate. |

Me either
Unless we move some guys out,
I think he gets sent down to Rochester
We have 14 other guys that would have to clear waivers (well, 13... but it seems like Mittelstadt is a lock to be on the Sabres now)
I think some youth will get their shot throughout the season
But i don’t think it’ll start out that way |

Weren't you the one saying how bad WAR and GAR are? Especially because it rated ROR so high?

Is Darcy employed anywhere in the league? Would be nice to find a taker for Larrson and Girgensons. I’m tired of watching them fill sweaters and do little else. |

About half of them would likely clear waivers. There will be a lot of competition to make this team. Thompson is in the mix

Tavares' open letter to Isles fans, for those interested. Nice little bit in there about Okposo. It's not much, but it's nice to hear. - TheSabresTaco
Pretty damn good letter
He even mentioned Moulson
Too bad he & Okposo weren’t enough to get him to even consider Buffalo
