So let's talk about how we improve our penalty kill. I don't see much changing from last season tbh. Thoughts? - FlyersGrace
Uh...get better players?
Average goalies and only one legit shutdown Dman is just not gonna give ya a top notch PK |

Paul Coffey & Charlie Huddy from Edmonton was a good duo. Then again that whole 80's Edmonton was stacked. Bill, congrats on reaching the $1000+ mark for the Charity Classic. I am less than $300 away & hope to hit the mark by Saturday. you Sunda. - cousjoe
Thanks! See you Sunday. |

In terms of improving the PK, the best hope right now is to further cut the number of penalties taken and reduce the PPGAs that way. I don't think the percentage killed will surge much with pretty much everything staying the same, except for Filppula's departure. |

R.I.P. Cowboy Bill
Flett was one of the most colorful players to ever lace em up for the Flyers and was one of my early faves as a young lad.
Re Best D pairs of all time, here are 5 of the best I ever saw:
Larry Robinson/Serge Savard
-Both were huge guys for their era, both could skate and both were skilled.
Bobby Orr/anyone
-Orr played half the game or more every night and usually played with at least 2 partners. It really didn't matter who, because any pair featuring Bobby Orr was one of the leagues best.
Mark Howe/Brad McCrimmon
-Best Flyers pair ever by far. They excelled at every facet of the game and were a ridiculous +173 combined in the 85-86 season.
Nick Lidstrom/Larry Murphy
-They completely took the Legion of doom off their games in the 97 finals (damn them) and they were one of the most cerebral and skilled pairs I ever saw.
Gary Suter/Al MacInnis
-Calgary's dynamic duo could dominate games with their skill and were a huge boost to the Flames offensive attack. - BiggE
I never saw the top 3 on your list, so I'll put these up for consideration:
Chelios/Smith was a good combo for Chicago and were the backbone of their SCF run in 1992 (Eddie Belfour helped).
Leetch and Zubov were, at least offensively, about as dominant a pair as you can find and Leetch earned the Conn Smythe in 1994.
During their stay in Nashville, Shea Weber and Ryan Suter were a pretty nasty combo at both ends of the ice. If they had a decent set of forwards, those 2010-era teams could have made some noise. |

It was so bad last year, it would be hard for it to get worse. It was the lowest Flyers PK% since 1981-82, but Lappy is untouchable for some reason.

Who were the great players who gave the Flyers a 85.9 PK% in 12-13? Bryz was the goalie that year. |

The 2 players that most helped the PK that season were Kimmo Timonen and whoever played with Kimmo Timonen. |

The Flyers would promote him for stopping the coke with his nose. |

Timonen and Coburn were a better PK D pair than anything the Flyers have now. Provy is excellent, but he needs someone to work with. Also, while Bryz was inconsistent and goofy, he was a better goalie than Elliott, much better than Mrazek or Lyon and much more durable than Neuvirth. |

re: PK...hexy said things might change in the coaching staff, but I haven't heard anything about it since then. Are we sure Lappy is still in charge of PK? I would assume yes, just wondering |

Sweet.
Now all we need to do is trade the farm for Karlsson and Holtby and we're good to go.
Oh, and we need to move G to center and Ghost to LW. |

this is where it starts. since we didn't land that 3C with PK ability (yet?), personnel isn't going to change much. hopefully growth of existing dmen will help improve, but as previously said, there's almost nowhere to go but up |

Someone is going to have so much fun if/when Giroux plays even one shift at center. |

When making donations for the event don't forget Bills daily hard work for us to have something to read each and every day of the year - in season or not - Would love to see him continuing to outdo his earlier expectations in donations - well deserving and of course to a great cause. |

The fact that TSN is quoting John Boruk on it's site for hockey info maybe the 7th sign of the apocalypse.

Of course it's inevitable. He's a very versatile player. I'll still bet that he plays the overwhelming majority of the time next year on wing. |

He was also great at firing the puck into Niemi's chest.

The only time Boruk should be used as a source is for articles on chauvinism and douchebaggery |
