On the other hand, most of us have acknowledged that it is possible but based on last season's success it is very probable that he will play the overwhelming majority of his time as a winger. He's a versatile player so to expect that he will exclusively play one or the other is not realistic.

His thought isn't the sand in the gears here.

My comment was more directed at the grief continually given out for bringing up the topic. As if that is against the rules or something.

The fact is a Flyers roster with clearly inferior talent to the current one managed to be a very good penalty killing team. This was the top 8 defense by ice time in 12-13 - it's laughable how untalented they were past Kimmo.

I wonder what the worst Flyers blueline of all time was... maybe the 2007 version?

There is a time and place. Yeah, he can always move back. But fresh off a 100+ point season with no opportunity to show it will carry over? To me that is kind of absurd.
- hereticpride

I don't see how an opinion of moving Giroux back to center based on the need could be an absurd opinion. I don't agree with it and I would not move him back but the idea is not outlandish.

LW or C, Giroux was gonna score a buttload of points last season regardless.

Not like his positioning in the ozone is any different if he starts the shift in the middle or on the wing anyway -- he's always gonna be somewhere in the left-circle/left-wall, and the big body on the line will be parked in front of the net.

It lightened his load a bit defensively, but not to the degree where it enabled his 100pt season or anything.

If he's healthy, and not saddled with any mediocre talent, I think he'll score a ton next season at C, or at LW. It shouldn't really matter. If the team is deeper with him the middle, so be it.

- Tomahawk

I don't think the move to wing is why he scored so well, he just had a great season. Certainly being healthy helped a great deal. I think the move is about keeping him healthy and extending his prime as long as possible.

That 2007 roster contained Randy Jones, Nolan Baumgartner, Ryan Parent, the corpse of Mike Rathje, Lasse Kukkonen (KOOKS!), and a breaking down Derian Hatcher.

So, yes, you are right in my estimation.

The 06-07 Flyers roster is just a (frank)ing nightmare.

Thanks for sending me down that rabbit hole.

Mike (frank)ing York pretty much sums up that roster.

My bad, you guys found this day old article nobody is considering.
- SuperSchennBros

I don't remember anyone saying it isn't being considered. As you pointed out yesterday, Hextall mentioned it being a possibility. Just unlikely.

Haha, Freddy Meyer, Denis Gauthier, Alexei poopnik, and Kimmo's brother.

No wonder Sid scored 120 pts that year.

Lasse was solid, just undersized for his role, and Hatch had one additional decent season left in him.

Arizona is franking awful. They're an embarrassment to the league.

They should have that team taken from them.

As long as someone else is bringing it up, I’m sure I’ll get blamed for this later with all the boys with selective memory around here.

Oo00oOoo...nobody is even considering the move

I'm of the mindset of leaving G at wing... BUT... bringing JVR back in the mix makes for an interesting scenario. JVR is not known for his defense. Having him and Jake with Patrick puts added pressure and responsibility on Nolan as the center. Can he handle it? Conversely, Coots needs to center a playmaker. Can't wait for camp to see which prospects step up.

It's not really the same. They aren't using the contracts to get to the floor, they're just using cap space as an asset. It is smart

Hereticpride said this.

I don’t care where Giroux plays. Yes he’s coming off a 102 point season where he played every game, which is outstanding. Giroux also has a 93 point season where he only played 77 games at center. Who knows what could have happened if he played all 82 games. Me believing a healthy Giroux could go back to center and play well is only a testament of how highly I think of him.

JvR is capable of a top line LW role, where he is knocking on the door of 40 plus goals. JvR has never played with a legitimate playmaker consistently with the Leafs.

All I’m saying.

What am I missing? They're sucking up a huge amount of cap space with guys who will never play a minute. The actual dollars they'll pay to these guys is minimal.

Pronger and Datsyuk are gone. It is literally just trading cap space for assets

I honestly don't care either. I think it's more the fact that you get stuck on an argument and keep repeating it that makes people angry. I know you didn't bring it up today, but you're arguing about it again. I come here for entertainment for the most part, so I like reading the arguments that happen on a daily basis.

What Arizona doesn’t isn’t our problem. Why is everything such a big deal around here?

Dear Formerly Phoenix,

Thank you for taking on our dead weight. I’ll forever be grateful.

It’s a hockey and Flyers related topic. Do you have a better topic? If you do, let’s hear it. It’s not like I said “Giroux should play center and that’s that!” I’ve made legitimate arguments as to why it might be a good ideas. A handful of you get upset and somehow deflect and tell me how much I suck!

It’s strange behavior by a collection of adults.

Flyers related topic for debate: Ivan Provorov, if he retired tomorrow, is/isn't one of the top 20 defensemen in team history.

You also seem to get real defensive when people say why they think it isn't a good idea. Whatever. Like I said, I enjoy the back and forth. I think it's funny, even when I'm a part of it.

What’s wrong with a friendly discussion or debate about any hockey or Flyers related topics? If I seem defensive, could you blame me? Do you know how ridiculous you guys sound as a collective group for bashing me for being a Schenn fan? What’s really funny is you guys have no idea how weird it is that you as a group goat me into argument because I enjoy watching an unpopular player play.

The 2 players that most helped the PK that season were Kimmo Timonen and whoever played with Kimmo Timonen.
- jmatchett383

Man, imagine an in his prime Timonen to go along with Provorov and Ghost.
