With Petan, I see an upside. He does have talent and smarts. I just don't see much of anything with Dano. Guys like him are a dime a dozen. - bennythehat
Agreed Benny. There has always been upside with Petan from the perspective of offensive prowess. It's been his defensive liabilities that have held him back to date of which I have mentioned before many times. I think he has worked hard on that though. The other factor is his speed. While a guy like Roslovic has both the speed and fitness to keep up with most NHL centers ( McDavid might be an exception), I just don't think Petan has the same wheels. He might just end up being a winger unless he has figured out how to position himself better to cover for his lack of speed. Little isn't exactly fast either but yet he does a good job of positioning. On a line with Little and Perreault I think Petan may be able to be a center as the two veterans are so very good at positional hockey that they can cover him off.
I'm truly looking forward to hopefully seeing a "new" and improved Nik Petan at training camp.

If Roslovic doesn't quite work centering Connor and Wheeler to start the season Little can slide in and Perreault-Connor/Petan-Petan/Connor can be the 3rd line. Little and Wheeler have definitely had chemistry in the past.
I find myself pumping Connor's tires based on what I thought I saw at the end of the year and playoffs. His anticipation and positioning seemed to place the puck on his stick quite frequently and it generally didn't leave until he wanted it to...... - liverpoolnhl
I don't agree this time Liverpool. You don't put a 31 goal scorer on the third line. Connor stays on the top two. That is pretty well a given.

Ha! Jetsnation that was a total brainfart. I absolutely meant to be pumping Roslovic's tires, not Connor's, and move Roslovic to the 3rd line with Perreault and Petan if it doesn't work with Connor and Wheeler. Definitely keep Connor with Wheeler ...... |

Oh yeah, a few bad plays makes him a bad player. Man you must hate your entire team last yeah and think they suck cause they made a lot of bad plays. - Archaic
Then why would you ever want to trade him?
Can't wait to see more of his "few bad plays" during the next pathetic Game 7 collapse.

Should we be concerned that the Jets are investing too much too soon in our franchise goalie? I get concerned when i think about 30 yr old Steve Mason who flamed out after his Calder 10 shutout season. But then I go to the numbers and my fears are somewhat allayed.
E.g: Mason was 20 in his Calder season, .916 Sv%;
Hellybuck was 24 in his Vezina finalist season,.922 Sv%.
Mason had 3 games above juniors when called up in 2008-09;
Hellybuck had 53 NCAA games and 118 AHL games and has generally been on a steady rise with G.A. and Sv.%
Throw in his apparent willingness to continually scan the horizon for advice and ways to improve his game and I'm on board with the contract...... |

This is a solid trade. Dano is better than Leivo by about the same amount that’s Gardiner is better than Myers. Even. Unfortunately, and this is knowing Maurice, it likely buries Leivo again - Rexypoo
True enough Rexy. I'd like to see both Dano and Leivo go to teams where they get a chance in the top 9. |

Not a solid trade for the Leafs. Gardiner is better then Myers....just what the Leafs need to do, get worse on defense. Also, the Leafs dont need Dano. - Archaic
Gardiner out and Myers in doesn't make the Leafs D worse. With Polsie gone to Dallas we could really use some size for Babbler to work with on the backend.
As of now that blue line is looking smaller than a decimal point. |

Myers does not need a fresh start. He played great Byfuglien Ate Me.
I really like this contract. I would love it more if they hired his off-season coach as the Jets full-time goalie coach. It appeared that the more time Hellebuyck spent with Flaherty, his game went south. - TheUltimateJet
I agree that he played great, I'm a fan of Myers. He may have heard the narrative of being traded instead of extended. If that is the case, he may just want to move on to Toronto and win some cups sooner than later. You get what I'm saying UJ.
As for Hellybucks contract, good for him. It's a bit higher than I expected, but maybe he had on his magicans suit from the NHL Awards while negotiating. Let's just hope he's magic on the ice next year. |

The Helle signing is fantastic ... well done, Chevy
Dano ... well ... the Moose still have to roster a team
Petan ... ok - look - with the departures of Stastny, Armia, Matthias perhaps he has one last crack at breaking into the line up ... < yes, I know, the latter 2 didn't play a lot > ... as a winger more likely as suggested on earlier posts .... I've said it before - I'll say it again - love the kid for his World Junior contributions ... but that doesn't secure your roster spot on the Jets ... I would suggest this season is his last real shot with this club - thanks to circumstances

Based on what Marc Andre Fleury got today, the Jets got themselves a bargain! |

Roslovic picked up Cormier's number. He has staked his place in the Jet's organization - getting more settled. It's a good sign. |

....and how can PoMo not give him a shot at the 2nd line? I mean, come on 27-28-29! It's in the stars...... |

That’s a terrible line, tbh. Ehlers and Laine just don’t click stylistically, and you don’t want to overexpose Roslovic on the defensive side until you have to |

Ehlers and Laine don't pass the eyetest together either, and agreed on overexposing Roslovic on the defensive side.
If #28 goes 2nd line centre full time I think he needs to play with Wheeler and Connor. I think Sheif's goes back between Ehlers and Laine - and this becomes the 1st line. |

I'm going in circles on this one. I remember Ehlers/Sheifle/Laine playing well together in 2016/17 but also think this line is limited because it has three shoot first players without a natural playmaker. Back to the drawing board. |

Yes, but I think if the lines get switched up ro start the season we may see Little with Wheeler and Connor and Roslovic with Perreault and Petan. Little and Wheeler have had some past chemistry....... |

Line 2 is concerning on this one, but 1, 3, and 4 will dominate. |

Dyck-Cox-Butt
and they were a good line. |

Petan-Scheifele-Wheeler has had better numbers than Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler. Wheeler played the best hockey of his entire career with Petan.
The Moose chemistry between Connor and Roslovic will keep them both scoring, if that’s your concern? |

I can deal with this. Gives Little a ton of scoring chances, Petan a real linemates (Ehlers), and forced Ehlers to shoot more.
Although: Dano>>Tanev |
