In today's NHL you have to "play a fast game." Not "play the game fast."

Malone's a Harvard kid. Especially after the trade with the Blues brought in Berglund and Kamchatka, he's going to be in ROchester for a while. But, as long as his skills keep developing, he can play a fast game through intellect, even if he's not as fast and Bailey or Jack.

Gotcha, Kais. I’m not as hung up on speed as some. But it is one of the things Botts has singled out. But aside from RD and Sheary, this is not a faster team than last year. Maybe it’s not as important as he led us to believe.

A product of Nichols School, Malone has carved out a reputation as intense competitor at both ends of the ice, combining excellent edge speed and puck control skills with a sound back-checking game. Malone, whose package of skill and character could fill an energy role as a pro, will have his work ethic tested off the ice as well when he enrolls at Harvard University this fall.
