After Lou's stint in Jersey, he became sort of a CEO. In that he was brought into Toronto for a "phase" like CEOs are brought into a company for a specific reason then leaves once that little job was accomplished.

He is is NY for the same reason, to fix some issues, then move on.

take it from a leafs fan, komarov is going to do nothing for you. he was a decent player 2 years ago but really fell off. not effective at all. and his penalty killing is nothing to be proud of. time and time again watch guys step around him to either score or get a great chance. missed assignments etc etc. horrible signing and contract....and get ready for that stupid no long hair or beard rule. just shows what kind of dinosaur lou really is.

Well considering Islanders had a 73,2 PK% (31st in NHL) and Toronto had a 81,4 PK% (11th in NHL) I would say he's probably an upgrade

One thing that may be different with Malkin stepping in and getting involved “hands-on” is that Lou probably doesn't have to penny-pinch the operating budget as Garth seemingly did. If one or more of the FA’s are really standing in the way of a Bellows or a Ho-Sang having a full time roster spot, I am guessing there wont be the fear of losing a player on waivers and having to pay the salary if they are acquired by another team. In other words, Lou can overstock the pantry a bit and not let $$ dictate his options.

Honestly, Lou is much better than what this franchise had in decades, so even if the recent signings look bad, the professionalism that Lou brings out ways the stench this franchise had. Plus with the new kids in the pool and cap space in future, not worried yet of how the team looks moving forward...

BD welcome back here, Ive always considered you the best isles writer out there. tell it as it is and will admit where wrong. Great strong opinion.

I think isles will do just fine if not better in the post John Tavares Era. Losting his offense is least of my concern though if there is one player i will be watching early in season to see his production is Anders Lee. I dont expect him to score 40 but if he can be a 30 goal guy you lock him up long term.

Im still worried about our defense. Though I expect Trotz to get guys playing to their strengths. I dont think you will have a Mayfield doing his Nick Leddy impression this season.

Lets see how it shakes up. I hope this Kovar guy is a huge surprise.

I agree that it's not as bad as it looked. Their "system" was the most absurd thing I have ever seen. You had D-men pinching in the neutral zone, you had 2 d-men follow the puck into the corner playing a man-to-man type D. You had D- constantly start up ice before it was clear of the zone. It was painful to watch what they were doing on the ice. I think a lot of our issues in net was partly b/c they were faced with constant odd man rushes and guys in front of the net all alone. While the Isles did not get even close to the goaltending needed to be successful our "system" didn't help.

de Haan was a pretty good Defenseman, but he was always hurt and certainly wasn't like a Kenny Johnsson. We have some solid talent on Defense. Much better than past years for sure.. Leddy and Boychuk have won cups. Pulock is a top talent player that I am personally looking forward to seeing with HOF coach on the bench. I think Toews, Pelech, Aho, and even Mayfield will all be much better this year. If they are not up to the task we have Lou to go get a guy.

I think according to Analytics and +/- its Hickey that is actually the best all around dman. Im happy to see we resigned him too. He bleeds Orange and Blue as well.

I do think Pulock going to really have big year and Agree with Nitelander, our whole defensive scheme this past year was utterly absurd.

I think good coaching will go a long way and dont be surprised if a Bailey and Nelson dont suddenly thrive with no JT there. The showed it end season before when JT was hurt for last games of the season.
