Don’t need a PPG defenseman when you have one of/if not the best top-9 forward group. Add to what good defencemen we currently have. If you can’t find a reasonably priced top-4 guy on the market, then draft and develop one.

Karlsson > Gardiner + Zaitsev (Or Hainsey)

Can still do all that but way better off with two time Norris winner than with Gardiner and Zaitsev for the same money.

Pittsburgh has won a bunch of cups.. I'd say line for line we match up the closest with them and that's pretty good.. they don't have a Karlsson but their top nine is toit

Pittsburgh had the best forward(s) in the game for 10+ years. Still had Gonchar and Letang on the blueline for the majority of their Cup wins. The Leafs forwards aren't as good as Crosby and Malkin but Karlsson is better than Letang or Gonchar. So if anything, Karlsson would balance the scales.

Letang was injured for most of the playoffs in their last cup win. Gonchar was gone.

I'd say we're right up there for best forward core, but Pittsburgh and Tampa are both pretty fantastic. I'd say ours will surpass them when our young guys get a bit more experience, within the next year or two.

Leafs could very well have the best forwards in the game too. Malkin Crosby Kessel. ....am, jt, mm, wn. That's 2 ppg guys...possibly a 3rd in marner...and nylander who could become one too. Not to mention a 30 goal 55 to 60 point guy named kadri.

The Leafs also have two 50 point dmen right now. You preached patience and building from within and the draft for years....amigo. ..it's starting to pay off. No need to add a guy who's best years could very well be behind him.

I don’t know how anyone can argue the Leafs D isn’t significantly better with Karlsson in and Gardiner out.

And I like Gardiner.

I’d probably split up Karlsson and Rielly, since they can both carry inferior partners, and then it makes the matchups more even... but yea, absolutely a better team.
