Really? I must have missed that part. I heard about marner with JT.
I don't get the logic behind having hyman stapled to Matthews for 2 years and then suddenly moving him to another line. Imo he doesn't belong on either of those lines - burn

I don't think Karlsson is a good idea... nothing against him.. - jimi james
Legit.
It doesn't have to be a "Karlsson vs. Gardiner" debate either, which is silly, but should be along the lines of "how in the (frank) would we afford his contract?".
You can either build a team top-heavy, bottom-heavy, or balanced; all are valid choices to win the Cup because it takes so much more than what's penciled into the lineup over the summer.
Leafs are going top-heavy, I'm ok with that, it's a real strength against the rest of the league. |

Yeah I just saw that just now. With hyman locked to Matthews for last 2 years I assumed it would continue, why would it change now? |

Not sure about considerable but 4 or 5 games maybe. Only way to get a message through is linemates and ice time IMO
Want to make $7m/yr you have to outscore the $2m guy 5v5 |

Would these be reasonable Powerplay Units?
Tavares (right wall)
Nylander (left wall)
Kadri (high slot)
Johnsson (low)
Reilly (point)
Marner (right wall)
Matthews (left wall)
Marleau (high slot)
Brown/Kap (low)
Gardiner (point)
Could switch Tavares as Nylander on different sides if necessary.
If you aren't going to allow Matthews to play with Marner 5v5, at least let them on the power play! |

5v5 he didn’t but who cares...
I don’t know what 15 times with less then 5 mins? 15 games with less then 5 mins ice? Really, I noticed Hyman played 80 more mins 5v5 with Matthews which is about 5 games - 15 games seems like a lot from what I remember ( if that’s what you meant ) |

5was a typo, was supposed to be 15mins. I edited already
It's way more than 5 times on the fourth line for sure. No question. And there is no evidence or reason for such a move. Guys like nylander and marner spent considerable time get 4th line mins while hyman never once did. |

Way more then 5 shifts or way more then 5 games? I thought about 5-6 games maybe....check ice time for Willie with the 4th liners that would probably be a good tell. |

You said he spent 5 or 6 games on the 4th line, and that is undeniably low.
What does shift have to do with anything? No one mentioned shifts? |

Babs put him on 4th line because he was jealous of his hair and good looks. Obviously he wasn’t doing something Babs wanted him too or he didn’t think his play was up to par for a Super Star, not really a big deal or hard to understand...it’s not like the coach can spank guys or take away their pay. |

Ok wasn’t sure if you meant 5 shifts as I don’t think he played a lot more then 5 or 6 games on line 4 - AM only play about 70 mins more with Hyman then Willie 5v5

He’s been pretty much that since he played with AM. Doesn’t seem to matter who the coach is some in here think they’re way smarter. |

Because Matthews told Babschlong to stop sand-bagging him with players who can't keep up with his plays. I imagine that's what the kitchen table meeting was about. That and the issue with being 40th in TOI or whatever Matthews was. |

They spent some time on the 4th line because they were a defensive liability. One could argue (including myself) that Marner never deserved it, JVR and Bozak did if anything. But Nylander certainly did. And he still hasn't really learned from the demotion although he he has a bit. But Marner definitely learned from it, even though he should have never been demoted in the first place. But in hind sight it looks like it worked for the better anyways so whatever. Hyman has never been a liability so why punish him, when he gives it 110% in all 3 zones of the ice. Punishing Nylander was definitely the correct thing to do. Especially since he's supposed to be a centerman at some point down the road. Thats at least how I view it. |

Marner had a short jaunt losing the puck mid ice etc. 4th line demotion isn’t the end all to be all...Babs gets to look at other players up in the lineup etc.
Going to be a good year, don’t think it will matter who’s playing where this year. 🕺🏼
