A perfect analogy for Nurse is a Chess player. I see IQ and awareness as two separate metrics.
Awareness is analogous to learning to play better and know what to do in specific situations, how to handle situations, and what might be the best thing to do in each situation.
IQ, on the other hand, is more so instinctive (like you guys mentioned, HOWEVER, I see awareness as apart from IQ, IMO). I'm thinking more along the borderlines of creativity and setting the bar when it comes to the highest/higher IQ level (Orr, Crosby, Roy, McDavid, Lidstrom).
In Chess, you can always learn new strategies, new methods of attacking, defending, openings, etc. You can always get better by every game played. However, when it comes to the end of a game, the guys that have the most creativity and the best instinctive tactical approaches always come out on top.
Now as for Nurse, I honestly think it's his risk assessment and situation analysis that needs to be improved. His Hockey IQ is there offensively (we has seen him join rushes, DEVELOP rushes, and chances in the past), however, his defensive IQ is meh IMO (not really creative within his own zone in terms of zone exits). HOWEVER, I think that by developing his awareness to a higher degree (remember those terrible, pointless, terrible gaffs he made last season, cause I can name a few?), hopefully capitalizing and expanding upon Wednesday's performance, he could very well be a solid player.
*Note that this is an old post from me from about a year ago, so last year/season = 2 years ago and Wednesday's performance = regular season game from a year ago; other than that, I thought it was fitting to repost* |

Sean Maloughney: What Should Nurse Get Paid?
A breakdown of Darnell Nurse and what his next contract might look like. - freelancer
Will be interesting to see. I am guessing around 3M per, on an bridge. Curious to see what the over-hyped Trouba gets. 5 seasons and a career high of 32 points. But people seem to believe he will get north of 6M per |

That was one of my old posts from about a year ago from this blog:
https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=87882
We were discussing Nurse and his place in this organization at the time. Go through the posts in that thread. All it takes is one good season for most of us to take on a new perspective, and rightfully so.
From a 3rd pairing defender to a current top 4 option. Even possibly a top 2 or greater within a year or two [if he stays on track in terms of development] in my view. Nonetheless, glad to see that Nurse is on track with regards to development.

Thanks.
I'm an avid chess player myself. I thought it was a fitting analogy to say the least. |

(frank) chess. It’s a great game and all, but unless you live in a city it’s hard as (frank) to find anyone to play.
Now draughts on the other hand, is the opiate of the uncultured masses. You can always find someone willing to play. |

I didn't delete them nor ban him. That was the doing of a different mod (most likely CaptEO). You didn't miss on much anyway. - EdmHockeyMan
Just tell EO you got it covered here |

Does a game use up much data? I’m somewhat limited in that regard. |

Formerly, Lichess's app has been known to use quite a chunk of data due to background data and computer analysis of your moves (keeps track of your moves and allows you to look back and analyze them). I believe the people in charge fixed this a while ago.
Personally, if you casually play (about 2-5 hours a week), it ends up being about 3-6 Mb's per months. One thing to note is that once you are done playing for the day, make sure that the app is closed. There are still a few reports of batteries being drained, along with data from users who didn't completely close the app. So just be careful in that regard. |
