I wonder if there's anything to read into that the Flames are working on the Lindholm contract before the Hanifin contract. - Hunkulese
Hanifin doesnt have arbitration rights, Lindholm does (due to age) & has a hearing filed already, so thats the deal out of all the RFA's you want to get nailed down first. |

If he stays on that top line with Monahan & Gaudreau, he absolutely will get 60+ points of which $5.0 mill will look solid. No different than what you guys are going to have to pay Nurse to keep him, you'll have to pay these top 10 picks with high ceilings some of their UFA years. If you dont, look at the Jets. They are already struggling to keep the cap in line, wait until they need to ink Wheeler & Lianni ..yikes those two will not be cheap. But if like was said, the going market for a consistent 45-50 point player is around 4.0-4.5 mill, if your going to gamble atleast its like playing red/black or odd/even on the roulette table. - Kevin R
I hope they trade Nurse. Guy obviously wants over 5mil now. For what? Love the style and what he brings, but he's not a top pairing d-man, he's not a powerplay specialist. But he wants to be paid like a top 50 d-man?
(frank) that. |

There are a lot of RFA d-men right now. Seems like there is a waiting game going on right now and everyone is waiting for one contract to be handed out. |

I know they're not actually real, but Hanifin seems like a pretty good candidate to give an offer sheet. |

A Hanifin offer sheet almost makes too much sense for the Avalanche. They need defensive help, they have Ottawa's picks to make up for the compensation, and their picks are probably going to be in the bottom third next year. |

The flames would match almost any offer Colorado made. Colorado would have to offer $8 mill plus for the flames to most likely walk away which would then cost Colorado 2x 1st round picks 1x2nd rounder 1x 3rd rounder.
Plus Colorado would have to justify hanafin as an $8 mill player |

BT may have his faults but signing RFAs has always been his strength. Throw him on the JG/SM line and this contract is going to be a steal |

Lindholm will get $5.25 for 6 years. He’s a consistent 40-50 pt guy who will most likely increase to a 50-60pt guy playing on the flames top 6 and is more than just a point producer he plays a very good 200’ game (comparable see Mikael Backlund = 40-50pt player signed a $5.3mill per extension
Hanafin will probably get a 2 year bridge for $3.5 mill per. His regular partner was van reimsdyke and Faulk got re majority of PP looks. So flames will reference his previous stats and his agent will point at his previous D partner, age, draft pedigree and the fact that with the flames his potential is sky high. Hanafin will slot in most likely with Hamonic and will go from a 20-30 pt guy to a 30-40pt guy so after 2 years flames will re sign him to a $5-6 mill per contract long term |

....You guys think this is a good deal? This is a long deal for a guy who scored 11 goals 2 of the last 3 years. |

Its at "market value". Less than what was rumored (take that with a grain of salt)that the Canes were offering so I don't know. Meh? |

Yeah. I think from a Canes perspective I'm just leery because we gave that kind of contract to Victor Rask at the same age with the hope that he'd continue to improve and he just sort of stayed the same/got worse. |

With a top-6 of him and any 2 of Monahan, Gaudreau, Backlund, Tkachuk, or Neal he'll put up quality on-ice and possession numbers.
It's very possible he has the same trajectory as fellow Swede Backlund who had good possession stats and finally broke out in his mid-20s. |

Certainly possible. He's always shown flashes of being something more than he is. |

he's a middle 6 forward, pretty average deal unless the cap goes up significantly during the next 2-3 years.
I'm always surprised to see these "I really think he still has a lot of upside left" comments.
374 NHL games, safe to say he is what he is at this point. He played 17-18 mins a night for Carolina so it's not like he was buried like Karlsson was in Columbus.
That being said, if he gets to ride shotgun with Gaudreau and Monahan, he'll set a career high in points, assuming all 3 of them stay healthy. |

He could, but I'm thinking he probably gets bumped down because of Neal and he gets used the same way he was in Carolina as a part-time centre on the 2nd/3rd line.

It's possible, but I figured that Peters would try to spread the wealth like he tried to in Carolina. |

Most likely. Just looking at it, Lindholm played on 8 different forward line combinations last season with 9 different players for at least 50 minutes 5v5.
That's just silly. |
