To be fair, when have any of the games really mattered the past 3 years?
- kingcong39

I remember there was a game in Bylsma's last year, we were 4 points behind Boston. We kept hovering just behind .500, if we won it, we'd be in the race. Lost it. Went on a slide.

I just don't see it that way.

When Risto was suspended, I honestly thought the PP had a better flow to it.

If you're a lefty standing at the blue line how could you pass to your left without going offside? These guys are always right on the line. You'd have to take a step forward with your right foot to open up for the pass. If you're right handed you can both shoot and pass to your left from the same spot. You can't do the same as a lefty.

The PP having better flow doesn't necessarily have anything to do with handedness.

Huh?

If Risto is shooting his back is to Eichel, if Dahlin is shooting he’s facing Eichel.

It makes a one timer or fake passes/shots harder.

A lefty playing the center point, shooting to a right on the half wall has an incredibly awkward angle. A right is able to put it right in the wheel house.

Risto's value as the point man on the PP is beyond debate. That is where he excels at the hockey

Again, I just don't agree with your perspective at all here. No offense.

It plays ostensibly like two righties on the left and right points. From my perspective, the smoothness of moving the puck has a ton to do with the handedness.

No ones saying he isn’t good there.

But he’s absolutely right it effects Eichel.

They had the PP run through Eichel/Risto this year as opposed to Eichel to the down-low passes to 23/90 like the year before.

A lot of Eichel’s PP goals were assisted by 23-90 from down low two years ago.

This past year Eichel’s one timers from Risto were useless

I guess that's the gap here. It's an easier angle to take a one timer, but it's a much tougher pass to make with a defender on the ice. Conversely, it's also much tougher for Eichel to pass to Risto.

Nobody has forgotten that. I think many seem to have forgotten his production the prior 2 years.

I think almost all are on board with a bridge deal.

Personally, I'm all about only paying players when absolutely necessary, except for guys like Eichel and hopefully Dahlin (maybe Mittelstadt).

- kingcong39

oops, forgot this was about Reinhart...no one's forgotten his first half. I think some have forgotten how the entire second, third, and fourth lines + the entire defense provided no offense and that Lehner carried this team for a while.

I like Reinhart. I'd bridge him and I'm curious to see him play with Mittelstadt. I think he's just OK with Jack on the top line.

No, I like guys that score almost all the time, like Sam has shown he can. He had a slump for 17% of his career, but let's not talk about the other 83%, that hurts our argument.

Give me a (frank)ing break, dude.

Let's look at Mr Toughness. Signed a massive 1 year $1.75M deal with St Louis:

He's never once played all 82, and he didn't play all 48 during the shortened season either.

Took him until he was 28 years old and playing with Jesus(the guy with 137 assists in the last 2 years, hmm I wonder how Maroon scored so many goals?) before he was anything more than a glorified 3rd liner and scored 20 goals and he ended up with 27.

"Toughness" is nigh on worthless these days. A guy that scored as many goals as Maroon did the past 2 years should've gotten like $4M a year. But he didn't, because he's not that good and teams know it and "tough" guys are a dime a dozen.

Guys that can actually score are valuable. People female dog about one bad half, but when the other 5 halves are brought up, they're "made up". Right... The line at the end of the season is what matters, and as bad as the first half was he ended up with a career year in goals and points. Other than a tiny handful of guys at the top, there's no such thing as a "consistent" hockey player in the way you deem it to be. And even then, Jesus had a 6 game stretch where he had only 2 points. That's ice cold for a guy that ended up with 108 points. Just because Sam isn't "tough" doesn't mean he sucks, or is weak.

- Wetbandit1

I have no idea why people continue to hate on Sam?
Sam is going to be a vital cog of this team moving forward.

That's funny, his back isn't turned here:

Or here;

both times it's an easy pass down low to Eichel because he's already pointed in that direction.

The benefit of the 1-3-1 with Dahlin and Eichel playing opposite each other is that they could combine for nasty cross-ice one-timers, and it could open up Risto to shoot more from the point, looking for tips from Mittelstadt or Reinhart
