Yeah I'd totally take a flyer on Sbisa. Basically a more complete right-handed Marincin. Gentle giant though, but so's 90% of the league nowadays.
- gravyface

Sbisa is a lefty, was an amazingly bad -8 Corsi rel, and -3 xgf rel.

6’2 205 doesn’t make him a giant, either.

He’s basically the opposite of what you described lol.

Hamhuis would be great if the Leafs could convince him to come over for a year.

Enstrom is also great for the fancy stats, though he doesn’t get the same d-zone usage as the other two.

Getting either of these guys would give the Leafs another veteran option, who can help eat minutes, which would be great for a guy like Hainsey who was clearly overplayed by year’s end.

Sbisa’s a seriously bad option, though. He’s like a defensively worse Gardiner without the offense. Better off giving Rosen or Borgman those minutes.

admittedly I don't know much about Sbisa's fancy stats...

I'd rather that Babschlong and Dumbas give the minutes to the kids anyway, don't care whether its CyBorg, Rosen or Holl, we already know what we have in Carrick and Marincin.

let the kids play... see if anyone emerges.

if POSSIBLE, move Gardiner 'cause I think his salary demands will parallel JvR's

He loves to deflect conversations. That was his response to me asking him how many teams in the salary cap era have spent more than half their cap on 4 roster spots.

Instead of being humbled and answering “none”, he responds with this garbage.

First off, I want to state that I agree that while Karlsson is a game breaking player, he'd be a cap breaking player. UG's logistical argument financially is not completely unrealistic in that they could probably squish him in - BUT then the Leafs would be in the Hell that post-cup Chicago ran into. Having to unload good players for lesser players. Every year there would be a diminishing return, because every year any player who does well has to go.

I'm sure you asked to try and make a point, but in 2015/16 both Pittsburgh and Chicago had over 45% of the cap dedicated to 4 players (Pitts at 45, and Chicago at 45.9). If the Leafs managed to get Matthews at 10, Karlsson at 9, and Marner at 8, they would still be at 50.9% of the cap for those 4 players.

But you know the one thing that turned me on to this board in particular, despite finding the rumour portion largely ludicrous - is that the posters in the Leaf forums are are generally knowledgeable and can argue politely.

Don't let UG's inability to concede change that. Respectfully disagree and walk away. People are going to be wrong on the Internet (* except me) and it is our job to walk away.

Agree with all this.. although the part where Karlsson signs for 9 is kinda silly, he's getting 11mil but that just further makes your assessment correct 👍

Gardiner 6mil 50pts
Nylander 6mil 65pts
12mil ~115pts

Or Karlsson 11mil and ~70pts

Hmmm

- Puck-us-all

That math only applied to jvr and Bozak vs Tavares.... probably because of taxes

Remember when Tavares wouldn’t sign here because taxes but now Karlsson is going to come for a discount?

And he doesn't even have a leaf themed bedspread.. I wonder why ug keeps sarcastically bringing that up when referring to Tavares actually signing here? It's like he's reminding us how wrong he was

Is it just me or do any of you guys think that Holl should get a look and a string of games. Done very well on the Marlies and that small stint he had during the season he had 2 goals in 2 games and was a +5. Hes not flashy which is why he doesnt get long looks but he looks steady. Im pretty sure it was Dermott that said he thinks hes one of the most underrated DMen not in the NHL. Im really hoping he's a late bloomer and works out but its a long shot.

It’s rare that a guy in his position winds up taking that next step, but it’s not unheard of. He’ll likely be one of the first callups.

As it stands...
Rielly-Hainsey
Gardiner-Zaitsev
Dermott-Borgman
Carrick

So Rosen and Borgman are knocking on the door... and obviously there’s 2 months till camp and then camp itself, so things will change.

If the Leafs don’t add anyone, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a waiver claim for a dman.

And now thanks to Nylander, Liljegren, Grundstrom, Johnsson, Engvall, Rosen, Borgman, Sandin.
- LeafGuy89

And Karlsson's better than all of them. Maybe even combined.

Any one know what's going on with Darnell Nurse? There are reports that he doesn't want to sign long term in Edmonton.

Saw this on Twitter;

Dubas: What makes you think you are Maple Leaf material?
Nurse: Well I grew up a Leafs fan, I can move the puck and I'm physical
Dubas: Alright, interesting. Now show us your pyjamas
Nurse: What?
Dubas: You heard me

I don't blame him. Dude is from Hamilton, so he's probably still a Leafs fan and can finally get out of Adam Larsson's shadow.

Wow. poopty news. Tyler Biggs just signed a contract to play in England.. I'm starting to think we can't call him a prospect anymore.
