The biggest problem in my book is that making a 1st next year the main piece of a deal limits you to teams with no intent of contending for the playoffs this year. There's very limited options, and they all have baggage/issues.

Once Smith and Reinhart sign that's 49 out of 50 NHL contracts on the books

Skinner's ask, if I remember correctly, was a 1st and a prospect. We have both. And we have to hope Nylander is worth enough. Otherwise, you need to use guys like Olofsson, Asplund, Pu, UPL, Borgen or Samuelsson.
