I had no idea that Herique had been in the league that long, I thought he was closer to Horvats age. Also, Horvat at $5.5 for the next 5 years is going to be one of the best value contracts in the league, Benning is a genius!

Funny...I was just talking to a buddy of mine I played golf with yesterday about Horvats contract.

He's a big Ottawa fan being from the area, we were talking about Melnyk ruining the team and it started with them trading Turris because they didn't want to give a second line center like Turris a six million dollar a year contract. Turris and Horvat being similar second line centres.

Also chatting about tight dressing rooms, said the Oilers camp in 1981 every rookie was roommates with a veteran, his was Messier, those 80's Oilers were the closest group he's ever seen.

When he was traded to the Leafs he said total opposite, Rick Vaive and the star players wouldn't even acknowledge the rookies.

All came from the stories of the Senators dressing room issues.

Good stories.

Yes the Turris thing started it pretty much the Methot situation didn't help either.

One of my Scout buddies told me (from his friend in Ottawa) that Melnyk was so drunk one night after a game he barged into the Sens changeroom and started berating Karlsson in front of the entire team. Something about misuse of team funds and the team credit card something like that. Apprently Karlsson just got up and walked out of the room and they haven't spoke since. Unity..lol

Uncle Eugene is a genius . Strip that team down until the city hates them and move them to a city that he can make money in

I don't think the league would allow them to move the team, they just need a new owner and a building in a much better location. It'll happen.

I think that generally speaking, the culture in NHL locker rooms has changed a lot. Because the established players have much more financial certainty they are less "afraid" of losing their job to a rookie. I've heard plenty of training camp stories of veteran players making life hell for rookies so they don't make the team

It was certainly different back when him and I played, you'd go to jail for some of the poop rookies were put through, it's just not socially acceptable anymore, nor should it be.

Former #Canucks/Comets blue liner, Philip Holm has signed with Torpedo of the KHL.

He was dealt to Vegas for Brendan Leipsic last spring.

Twitter Benning fans erupting on what a genius he is for getting Leipsic for nothing, guy is pure genius

That is definitely option A, but option B is that Vegas rid themselves of a contract for a player they knew would never make an impact. I hope it's A!

I'm sure at the time it seemed like a good idea for 18 year old Lefty to get blackout drunk at a peeler bar with the guys the night before a morning practice, while the vets all nurse a beer or two

Seemed to be ok with us. Interesting thing is, Holm played 1 career NHL game. It was vs Vegas.

I thought we were not to question his intelligence anymore or Makita will freak out. He's becoming more of a drama queen than WhiteLie.

What happens if he gets claimed off waivers? Pandemonium, elation or apathy? Or all three...

I don't know how old you are, or if you've ever played major junior, but some of the stuff they made the rookies do, borders on criminal sexual harassment.

I'd share some of those stories but I don't think they'd go over well with refs here.

One of the reasons I was critical of players like Kesler and Bieksa with our young players.

Old enough to know what kind of hazing went on, but never good enough to have been part of it. You should probably take some of those stories to your HB grave.

you know, I'll give you an example, when you're 16 or 17 years old and in high school, your hair is pretty important to you. When you make four rookies sit in the dressing room after practise and tell them all they have five minutes with a playboy mag to "relieve themselves" while everyone watches or they're getting their hair shaved off, it borders on criminal activity.

Can you imagine if the media got ahold of that now-a-days. There'd be a major investigation into the conduct of the team as that's full-on sexual harassment.

As an example.
