The cap went up 4.5 million last year. I simply took the average. Again, trading the likes of a Brown who could be replaced by a younger, cheaper player is still worth it to add a player like Karlsson. You can replace depth players a lot easier than you can pull a Karlsson out of a hat.
It's a minor risk and it's definitely worth taking for a legit top pairing RHD. - Unholy_Goalie
The cap went up, due to the additional revenue generated by the Golden Knights..
We may not see an increase until the Seattle thing is done.
It's fun to guess-timate, I know.. I am guilty of it as well, but it would'nt work in our favour.. We'd be asking for a lot of contributions from the guys making league minimum.
Potentially replacing Johnsson - Kadri and Brown with Tyler Ennis - Frederick Gauthier and a well past their prime Joel Ward isn't productive. |

That's a lot of questions but I'll answer as best as I can. First of all, Kudos to you for even knowing that there IS a difference!!
Miss USA is mostly about looks. There are three phases of competition all weighted equally - evening gown, swimsuit and interview.
Miss America is more about the total package. There are five phases of competition - Talent at 35%, Interview at 25%, Evening Gown at 20%, Swimsuit at 15% and On Stage Question at 5%.
There are three things that really make the Miss America system different...there is a talent portion, the interview is much more intense and, most importantly, it provides millions of dollars in scholarships not only to the winners, but runner ups, preliminary winners, etc. every year.
Neither system is necessarily "better" than the other. They are just different. There are girls that are successful only in one system, but there are many that crossover and are successful in both.
Hope this explains it

These don't happen very often with players like Matthews & Marner. - Pen15
Neither does adding Tavares and Karlsson in the same offseason and going for a Cup in a three year window. They all love Marleau right? Well if his ass isn't going to retire and open up that 6.5 AAV that they need to pay these guys, maybe they all love him enough to take a haircut and go for a Cup with him altogether. |

They still fit, even at that price. Might have to move a less valuable depth player, not a big deal at all. - Unholy_Goalie
Nope. Can’t afford him. |

Even in your scenario, you've dedicated about 50% of the cap to 4 roster players. That's what you don't get. The cost of making a move like that would involve gutting the rest of your team.

Seattle is coming soon, but the average is still 2.96 per year. I went with the average, not the highest number.
Brown is replaceable. So is Johnsson. |

So Matthews and Marner are goners I guess. Only Tavares remains with his Leafs bedsheets. - Unholy_Goalie
I think it widely believed that Matthews will be getting at least $10M per season..
Marner should likely come in around $8M, cause he is way better than Ryan Johansen.(That's my logic and I'm sticking to it)
Nylander might be the only one who gets a bridge deal, but the risk is knowing that he will outperform it quickly. |

In my scenario, Matthews got Kucherov money (which he hasn't fully earned yet by the way) and Marner got 7.5. That's only 1 million less than what you think. If it's my scenario, your scenario or the difference is split, they all still fit under the cap. There was 1.8 million left to pay any one of those guys a bit extra if it was absolutely necessary. That being said, if Dubas went to them and said you guys have to take a 500K (really a 250K) haircut to add this Norris winner, you think they say no? Maybe Matthews doesn't and Marner does. Maybe the other way around. But the money is there. Just trading Zaitsev could free up the money and even improve the team if he doesn't improve from last year. |

Basically, yeah;
Leivo - Tavares - Kapanen
Hyman - Matthews- Marner
Grundstrom - Lindholm - Ales Hemsky
Ennis- Gauthier - Joel Ward

He’s such a hypocrite.
JVR+Bozak > Tavares: argues this
Nylander+Gardiner > Karlsson: argues against this
- Steven_Seagull
My favorite is when he said Karlsonn makes any team that trades for him a contender....a few days ago he said you have to prove you are a contender by making the finals or winning the cup |

There's only 5 or 6 of them out of 18 but if you think that's 73% then I guess it explains why you'll never understand that Karlsson can fit. |
