You have 5 UFA/ELC and a UFA goalie at 1 million as a backup.

How is that sustainable. Didn't you just argue that no more than 2 members of our CHAMPION farm team will be NHL'ers. How do we sustain that pipeline.. or do we just get the very bottom of the scrap heap on our 4th line and 3rd pairing.

As it stands now, the Leafs spend less than 1 million on the back-up and have a couple UFA / ELC on the roster going into this season with Leivo, Lindholm and Ennis. It's not that different at all except they'd have Karlsson.

It's sustainable because the Leafs will have players like Tavares and Karlsson who can elevate the game of those around them. You're going to get ELC players or UFAs who want to be a part of the team for less who will get better results by playing with these guys. After Marleau retires, 6.5 opens up to continue to improve or retain players. Zaitsev is another 4.5 million that can be moved.
