Also it's been reported that the Canadiens won't even offer him a contract

So where is this $8 million coming from? - Stripes77
actually it was Bob McKenzie number 1 reason why he wasn't moved because of contract negotiations |

This is probably a crazy idea, but hear me out.
Idk what the Wild value Parise at, but:
Rather than Sign Pacioretty for let's call it 7x7 (his rumored price), would you move Okposo, Bailey/Girgensons and maybe a 3rd for Parise? Parise is at 7.5
The wild need to clear cap space if they want Zucker. Rather than adding a +30 player to Okposo in Pacioretty, you're swapping one for one. I know Parise has 2 more years than Okposo, but at 5 or 7 years, it's not a huge difference imo, especially considering Parise has a higher goal scoring ceiling still. Parise adds speed and a needed LW, and also adds some character.

Not bad. If there are amnesty buyouts in the next CBA, you're probably buying out Okposo anyway, and the short-term benefit of Parise is higher imo - jcragcrumple
Interesting
But why is Parise waiving his NTC?
And why does Minny move out his salary, just to take Okposo back?
Doesn’t save them much Cap space |

But if they're going to trade him why would they bother with extension negotiations? It's stupid to put that out there, because you lose leverage that way. Kind of like how Ottawa is totally fine hanging on to Karlsson, but no one ever accused Bergevin of being a genius. |

No answer to why he would waive other than a change of scenery, but as to the second question, saving $1.5 against the cap for 7 years would help, especially in the short term with Zucker.
In the long term, it would be easier for them to retain $1.5 on Okposo and move him (4.5m in cap savings there), in addition to the $1.5 savings over Parise. If Okposo has a decent year, they could retain a modest amount of cash and free up $6m fairly easily |

Again you're the one proposing these maybe questions
What if he likes it here?
What if he likes playing with Jack?
What if the Sabres plan is something he gets behind?
What if he likes the city like almost every other player that has played here and wants to stay here?
Just because a player could wait to see what else is out there doesn't mean he will. - Stripes77

I’d think they’d at least try to make more of a savings than the 1.5mil though

It's an incremental savings plan for them. Moving on from Parise with no salary retained would be a huge win (if they want to move him). Phaneuf had salary retained, and Gaborik went along with it.
No one is going to take on Parise without shedding salary in the process |

Probably true
But maybe they just move a lesser contract to get Cap room
1.5 now, and maybe more at some point is risky |
