I agree, it was an important post season. Tom got paid based on that and being a 24 year old , heading into the 6 prime years of his career.
I feel like the Sabres have plenty of scorers and play makers now. I'm just worried about protecting them.
Lots of small , non physical guys.
I would run them until they quit. Hope other coaches do not feel the same way. - Boss34
We were one of the worst scoring teams in the league last year (if not worst?)
Lost O’Reilly & Kane- 2 of our top3 scorers
Added Mitts & Sheary, and i guess u could include Berglund
That doesn’t improve us much from last year
We still need help in the goal scoring department |

Your point is valid for a team like the Sabres who are building and still a bit away.
That $5m could be spent on a highly skilled winger, so point well taken.
However for tne caps who were stacked, that infushion of toughness, wildness and ability to pot some points was in fact a very active ingedient to their success.
I ask this
If a tom Wilson type was enough to giive a guy like samson the confidence to stand in front of the net, to go behind the net for passes to the front...rather thaan getting killed trying to do so...is that confidence worth something? And if a player who instills that confidence can also pot 15 poi ts along the way in the playoffs...is that worth something?
Add them together, does tht nkt indeed provide higher value that eitber alone?
There is a place for Tom wilson, if he were to be a key ingedient in bring a cup to Buffalo...I would pay him $5m. - IonSabres
But, Wilson only had 35 points.
That's all that matters.
Just kidding, some people just look at the stat sheet

I mean we do have Sobotka that is essentially a Patrick Kaleta that can actually contribute offensively. He puts up 30 points (just like Wilson) and he is first team PK and is 55% on the draw and supposedly he’s a cap dump at $3M a year...... He also has pretty good wheels. |

Mitts is special, that's right, hes gonna stay in college or play in Rochester

height has nothing to do with it
at the time it was legal - homiedclown
Legal or not it was still a predatory hit to the head on a player in a vulnerable position with the intent to injure. I always thought he was a POS even before the hit. All that being said, if Drury would have had his bucket strapped the results would not have been as bad. |

Yes but Wilson won’t win 55% of the draws, won’t make our PK unit potentially top 15 in the league, and will contribute just as much points. Sobotka will smash Kadri’s nose clean into his face. That’s good enough for me. |

I never said he would stay in college or play in Rochester... i said he “could”
It’s “you’re”
And it was you who said Mitts will have a Barzal-like season
Then retracted bc u supposedly didn’t know Barzal was a ppg player (yeah, right)
And what’s your prediction now? 60pts?
Idk how many goals u expect him or Dahlin to score?
We still need plenty of help scoring
I’m all seriousness...
how many goals are you predicting we improve by?
I can’t believe u actually think we are all set in that department |

Add a defense with Dahlin, healthy McCabe, Guhle and you have at lease, 1 goal per game coming from the defense and at least 1 less goal being scored upon. Add a goalie who doesn't suck, and this team will be much improved. |

That only works though if all those guys take team friendly deals. If Wilson making $5M a year prohibits them from signing Burakovsky and Vrana will he then be worth it ? If Burakovsky is in another teams jersey scoring and is a plug and play 25 goal scorer and you had to give him up because you were short $2M AAV is it worth it then to you ? - Pegullaville
Well, Burakovsky and Vrana will still be RFAs next summer and the Caps will have $12m in cap space, so I don't think they'll be in trouble yet. |

I agree we will be improved
But we aren’t all set with goal scorers
Guhle might not be with us at the start of the season bc of the amount of NHL defensemen we still have
So idk when, or how much we can count on him?
Guhle + McCabe + Dahlin combined are gonna add up to about 25 goals...
not 82
Even if u add the rest of the defensemen, it’s not close to 1 goal per game sir |

Not necessarily the D scoring a goal a game, but having the ability to get the puck out of our zone and moving forward could add a lot more scoring. |

no you are a sabres fan
it's common to not be able to look objectively
Neal had EVERY right to finish his check
Drury had his head turned away and looking down after the shot
the check WAS legal at the time
was it a cheap shot as far as intentions, probably
but it's not like he crossed the line and pulled a dale hunter - homiedclown
Late hit
Shoulder to the head
It was dirty
Doesn’t matter if it involved a Sabre or not

I thought we needed toughness to protect
Eichel
Sam
Mitts
Dahlin
Guhle
I thought maroon would bring that kind of toughness
I just cant stand the fact that our stars are gonna get roughed up, and we lack backbone.
I appreciate you acknowledging the "w"
I respect you - Boss34
This is 100% correct. People think the reason the Sabres lost to Carolina in the 06' conference finals was because of bad luck; having 4 of our top 6 dmen injured, and oh btw Tim Connolly -- who was playing the best hockey of any player in those playoffs. All suffered injures...
That team, like every team since was soft. There there was a reason for all the injuries (besides McKee's staph infection.) It was because Carolina was extremely physical with is. They brought the physicality to the Sabres. And when you're constantly the team being roughed up, injuries are bound to happen. So in a sense, the injuries weren't based on bad luck; rather a circumstance of an extremely talented team being soft.
So why bring that up 12 years later? Well, because the current Sabres team, while they are loading up on talent, lack organizational toughness (they lack mental toughness, too, but that's a different issue.)
Eichel, Mitts, and Dahlin will be targets because of the lack of toughness. Obviously, there are no longer goons running around like it was in the 70s-90's. But there are Tom Wilson's, and if they aren't challenged (and I don't mean fighting) our star players will get taken advantage. Now this won't happen every game, and most fans won't have even notice. But it makes a difference when elite players can be on the ice knowing there is a player(s) that will partol the ice.
Also, being the aggressor gives players/teams a mental advantage, and a boost in confidence. Now I don't mean have a team full of Tom Wilson's. Not even close. But you do need some players that will initiate, and bring toughness. It's as much as a mentality as it is physically. |

That’s a fair point (not what he said though)
But it’s all tbd still
And obviously having more forwards who are good scorers would help when the defense does get the puck up to them |
