I am a huge ROR supporter, but those two had their chance and they could barely be competitive. If we had kept them, the only additions and would be Sheary and Dahlin. With ROR gone, Mittelstadt is given his chance to be a scoring 2C and Berglund can comfortably slide into a checking 3C.
What I'm saying is, those two couldn't prove that they only needed a piece or two. They failed as core pieces. I have my qualms with the ROR return, but Mitts as the long term 2C makes sense - jcragcrumple
I hate that argument
They had too much crap around them
If Edmonton fails to become a contender,
is that McDavid’s fault?
I know they aren’t on that level,
but still
It’s a team game
And a big portion of our team during their tenure was garbage |

No, but it is the Lucic’s and Larsson’s fault where Edmonton either paid too much money or too many assets in trades and considered them core players.
It’s the same with Kane and O’Reilly. They moved multiple assets and played them big time minutes, and frankly they weren’t good enough to be kept for 15 mil combined long term ( if we would’ve signed Kane) |

Lucic is a failed member of their core, as is Larson and Sekera |

When you have Eichel, Reinhart, Okposo, Kane, and RoR in your top 6, and your top 6 is among the least productive 5v5 groups in the league, they deserve criticism. Whether it's individual, or as a group, it was bad. Blaming the defense, goaltending, or bottom 6 is a cop out. |

Toronto was bounced because Andersen couldn’t stop a beach ball and the best line in the NHL totally owned Toronto defensively and offensively. Total 200 foot effort. What happened when Boston played Tampa ? Whose Tampa’s enforcer ? Washington beat Tampa becuase Trotz defensive play stifled their offense in games 6 and 7. Not because they were scared of the physicality of one player. - Pegullaville
It is clear you either didn't watch, or forgot about how Tampa playedin the playoffs...team tough against boston worked.
Washington absolutely beat the pulp out of Tampa, and caused Kucherov andd s
Stamkos to shy away from the boards thereby causing a loss of possession.
Rewatch the games...as obvious as hell.
It is still talked about today...in facg I read another article, on The Athletic that brought this point up again. |

Maybe a couple at most? |

I think the physical play is an age thing.
Older guys realize that its neccessary. And I do not mean goons. Hitting hard and intimidating the opponent. Physical playoff hockey.
Some of the younger guys have blinders on. All they see is point production, 5 x 5 ect.
Either could be right.
Not seeing the "intangibles " like tom Wilson's toughness and continuing to point out his 35 points proves it.

Eichel injured and paired with scrubs
Reinhart at center and taking the 1st 1/2 season off
Okposo coming off a brain injury and scoreless thru 10
Kane playing hot with eichel, then nothing before the deadline
Ror consistent, but nothing 5 x 5
Not making excuses, but they all had warts
The d sucked bad
Lehner couldn't stop a beach ball
Housley couldn't motivate messier |

The idea that they had nothing around them is very idea I'm against. The second line regularly featured RoR, Kane, Okposo, and Sam, yet produced at a very poor rate. It was a glaring problem for 2 years, arguably their biggest problem.

Sam's first half distracted everyone from how bad RoR's first half was.
