A little fun on a mid-summer Sunday.
Apparently, about 5 teams a year qualify for the playoffs that had not qualified the year before.
Below are the teams that failed to do so last season.
Pick your 5 (or 6 if you must) that will do so in 2019
Florida
Carolina
NY Islanders
NY Rangers
Detroit
Montreal
Ottawa
Buffalo
St. Louis
Dallas
Calgary
Edmonton
Chicago
Vancouver
Arizona |

That 2nd line was handicapped by the overwhelming number of defensive zone starts
And when O’Reilly did win the faceoff,
the defense that was out there couldn’t get the puck up ice to the forwards
How many sh!tty exit zone passes did we see the last couple year?
Heck... a lot of the time they couldn’t even try to break out & just dumped the puck to Center ice only to have it shot back in again
And being so overplayed with all those tough minutes had to tore him out a bit
If you think our 2nd line was bad,
your opinion of our bottom6 AND our defense has to be much much worse
We’ve had zero top end scorers
That means we need to have depth to be successful
We have had no depth at all
None
Like i said...
name all the players from the last few years that you still want around for the future
I’ll bet it’s a VERY short list - jdfitz77
You're making excuses for a bad line and constructing a narrative to support it. I don't buy it.
RoR was 57% dzone starts. That's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. He took a ton of draws, offensively and defensively.
Eichel's line, which worked with anyone, was the only strength of this team last year. Everything else was bad. In my book, the biggest problem is the second line because they got massive ice time and were largely unproductive with it. In the first half, they were downright brutal. It's just as easy to argue that their poor play made the defense worse as it is the opposite.
Your list isn't an interesting exercise to me. The only guy on the team from the start of 2016 that needs to be on this team in 3 years is Eichel. Realistically, the number probably ends up at about 5.

Chicago is looking interesting to me as well.
I'm pulling for the Cayote' ... maybe that will attract Matthews to sign an offersheet there, lol.
If nothing else it would hamstring them for years. |

I'll be happyif the Sabres get to 85+ points, and get out of bottom 5.
I see slower, but steady improvement for them the next 2 years.
But if they find the sniper up top with Eichel so Sheary can ride with Stats that would change things. |

I really like 85 points as our bare minimum.
Looking at last years -81 ending goal differential,
+2 was the last playoff spot
We could easily score 50 more and let 30 less in.
40/40
We were that bad, intentionally
Mitts should pick up for ror
Dahlin and guhle should lead us to 30 more goals
Healthy eichel 20 more ( primary and goals)
Sherry, Thomson healthy okposo 10 more
No lehner or Chad 30 -40 less goals given up
8 less empty netters against
Its possible |

Feels like too big of a jump to me. Still a lot of question marks and a lot of inexperience.
The goaltending is the biggest wild card. It could be anywhere from great to worse than last year, and injuries would be devastating.

It is possible, but IMO that is counting on everything going right.
Hiccups happen.
I will add to your list tbey are a much deeper team, so they should be able to overcome some hurdles along the way.
I just take a more conservative view...and then hope for the best.
First time in several seasons i'm excited to watch them and ezpect some entertaining hockey for a change. |

You have no clue
You act like a 10 year old on here.
Just keep talking about nylander being " the truth" and how great he is. He looks like a complete BUST.
Sabres definitely were not trying to win the Stanley cup last year. They barely made any attempt to improve the team. Coincidentally the best ever defenseman was available to draft.
Top 4 were really strong
Russian
Zardina
Tkachuk
All year you sat on the website with your hands down hoping for the Sabres to come in last place.
Why wouldn't every other person connected with management want dahlin? Who on the planet didnt want him?
Clearly the Sabres didn't put forth any effort and let the team burn to the ground. If you want to call it something other then tanking , go for it.
We were not good and tried to finish bad to draft, something you keep preaching |

I agree with the inexperience
Last year we lost McCabe, blowgo and eichel
Not sure how much worse injuries could be.
Goaltending seriously cant be any worse.
Hutton led in both gaa and save %
Lehner was a total joke |
