So it’s legal to make contact with someone’s head with your shoulder?
And his head wasn’t down
Idk what you’re talking about there at all?
It was a cheap, dirty, illegal hit - jdfitz77
I hate everything about that night. Drury got knocked out. Biron got his ass kicked by Emery. The fanbase seems to celebrate that fight like it was the greatest thing on earth when, in reality, it was the beginning of the end.
Including the playoffs, Buffalo went 1-4 against Ottawa for the rest of the season.
I don't understand why that's a celebrated memory at all. |

It's practically the best game, best contribution made by drew stafford.
I thought he was going to be somebody. |

At the time hitting someone in the head with a shoulder was perfectly legal. Hard to celebrate Campbell on Umberger as a great hit and object to Neil on Drury because of shoulder to head.
Yes it was a dirty hit in that it was late, even by the past standards.
Saying it was Drury's fault, I don't buy it.
Gotta love hockey, the "She was asking for it" excuse lives on! |

On Josh Allen potentially being the starter:
"I'm not opposed to him winning the job at all... It's an open competition. Josh is playing with the threes right now, some time with the ones."

Therein lies the problem. It hasn't happened. What makes you think it will all of a sudden? - Wetbandit1
Wrong. So wrong.
it hasnt happened to the Sabres because the Sabre haven't played deep into the playoffs since the '90's. ...christ, they havent played a meaningful game in practically 10+ seasons, lol.
Tough physical hockey is played EVERY year in the playoffs....doesn't always win, but it gets played alot and winning teams have to play through it.
Tom Wilson was an integral part of the team's success, like it or not, it is a fact. His tough, bone crunching hits, willingness to fight anyone was a key ingredient in the team's success...and he added some points to contribute on the scoreboard.
If he was a Sabre, you would love him.
He got paid, just like Boss34 said.
Like. Many contracts given out, will he earn every ooenny, especially in the "out years" of a 5 year deal...probably not...but the GM kept term relatively short.
Good call Boss! |

Not sure how quiet it is...
Been talked about on WGR for 2 months.
McDermott continues to support him.
Would love to see it happen. Kid is supposed to be very smart, and has been said it takes him a little adversity for his play to come around...but he has.
Just not Allen, he isnt ready. |

Worst part is, like you said, "the beginning of the end." When did we really have it all that great? The 05/06 the team was okay at best, barely made the playoffs, but then surprised. Then, we had the 06/07 season and came up short. So what did we really have? One decent season. That's what we hang our hats on. Pittsburgh is going on year 12 of being good/great, Detroit had 25 years of straight playoff runs, Chicago 10 years, 3 cups... We had 1 season of watching a dominant team. Whoopty friggin' do. |

Cuz it was fun
The entire team stuck up for their captain
Goalies fought
A player fought a goalie
The coaches almost fought

Great post.
Physical play, especially in the playoffs is still alive in the nhl.
The key bank center would be filled with tom wilson jerseys

You are correct, sir. I'm not sure why I was believing that we just squeaked in that year, but the point of my commentary still stands. We look back fondly on a very short time period where we were actually good. While other teams look back on a decade or more when they were dominant. Screw 05-06 and 06-07, I want to see the Sabres dominant for the entire 2020's decade. |

he finished his check a tad after the whistle blew
he had every right to start a check before that whistle blew
and if drury had his head up, the shoulder would not have done that so thanks for making my point on the head down |

I think Tom Wilson is the kind of tough guy you will see on teams, one that can contribute. He had the perfect playoffs at the perfect time in his career.
So he did get paid, but I think it was a perfect storm that got him paid too much. If the Caps don't win the Cup or go deep in the playoffs, this isn't what he gets paid.
He was a key piece this post season, but I want scorers first, then get a Tom Wilson type player. |
