You need to go sit in a corner and think about this for a while and come back with a clear head. There are only ever a handful of elitely talented kids in every draft. Brendan Gaunce is not an elite talent, but he is a first round pick, he is an NHL player, and he will in all likelihood fulfill his potential as a late 1st round pick. Boeser, Pasternak, even Barzal are the anomaly.
If later round picks are a shot in the dark, would you rather have more shots? There is nothing in the CBA that says you have to sign a player to an ELC. Personally, I would love my team to have 20 draft picks every year, and only sign the top 2 or 3 players (or more if they deserve it), then signing every one of the five selections I made. - 1970vintage
Jamie Benn has a hart trophy. Bure and all his talent. Datsyuk and zetterberg were pretty elite talents in their prime and have stanley cups. Anomalies? Absolutely. Detroit won stanley cups with those players chosen in late rounds. Good teams draft throughout all rounds. |

I was actually going to say the same thing. Wasnt it a few toddlers who ate them and it was more of a tragic story than actual teenagers eating them for fun? I might need to brush up on the story but i thought it was more of a sad story for a few parents than it was a trend for teens - Codes1087
There were some "challenge videos" of teens/early 20s eating them and reacting for the camera, but they were considered viral because people thought they were funny, watched them a lot of times, and news outlets then picked it up, calling it an epidemic. It happens regularly, if you want ad revenue from people clicking on your articles, they have to be about unique topics and use extreme language. Whether they are accurate or not, nobody cares as long as they get their $$$ |

It might seem unfair to some but the fact is social media and posting on the internet is permanent. If your kid is posting online at any age you should already have had a discussion with them on what is and what is not appropriate to put on there.
I'm sure for any of us when we were younger there were words we used or opinions we had that nowadays we no longer use/have. Personally even if I was saying those things in day to day life I knew better than to post anything potentially inflammatory online because I was taught not to do so. - NorthNuck
Sounds like your old man and my old man had the same talk with us when we were first introduced to the internet lol |

Kids these days also have way more access to be stupid. I got my first cell phone at 17 years old. I have never owned a tablet or a laptop. I see parents handing toddlers tablets now to keep them occupied. Parents are almost setting kids up to fail at this point (sorry in advance to parents who give their kids technology super early) - Codes1087

Also, my 4 year old is supposed to be adept at using a tablet when he starts preschool. They have iPads that they give them.... it's not just the parents. |

As I grew older, I also became much more tolerant. I was never perfect though. It takes growing up. These teenagers are no different then just about every other teenager. - manvanfan
I have to agree with Codes, you make a statement in a public forum you should be held accountable. If you realize the errors of your youth and man up and apologize in the same fashion then you should be given a measure of forgiveness.
Should Crosby be let off of raping and drugging all those women because it was in his youth.. |

I haven't given mine one. The school board wants them to have that knowledge as a base line to build on. It's weird to me though, especially because they're only supposed to have an hour of screen time a day, but the school gives them 2 hours a day.... lazy teachers? |

I'd say so. Despite all the advanced teaching tools out there, you can still learn more from 1 on 1 time with another human imo. Technology will invade those kids lives regardless, why not let school be a respite from that? |

You labelled one pick from one round which each teams get every year. All it would take would be good scouting. |

If youre willing to write racist/homophobic/whitepower poop on the internet, you better be willing to take some heat. Hard to be publically shamed for something you made public.... |

Last year my company asked me to be a "health and safety" person at work. I've taken 6 "workshops" now on basically this kind of stuff. How other employees are to treat each other. At no point in any of the workshops did they say it's "different" or "ok" to call someone out on the actions publicly, to shame them.
My wife who works in mental health with people of all ages. Says that it's not right and no where have she ever been taught that it is appropriate either. |

Carols blog has been confusing and not really hockey related this am. If I was to summarize, Crosby drugs women and Codes is intolerant to minorities and used to tweet some awful stuff during his youth. Am I missing anything? |

This makes no sense. At each stage you prove yourself capable and if you are better than someone else you get the job.
I really can’t fathom how or why you are arguing against having more draft picks. - 1970vintage
Read following posts. Idgaf about ALL picks.

Gaunce not elite? Duh
20 draft picks to sign 2 or 3 is a waste of traded assets & drafting of epic proportions. |

Drafting has improved league wide. The days of Datsyuk & Zetterberg become more rare. Bure is a poor example if you know the full story. The Wings are back to a bottom feeder. Good teams don’t draft throughout all rounds. Good teams draft wisely & develop. |
