You don't need every player drafted to become a significant impact player in order to field a competitive team. I can't overstate how poopty it is to have our goaltending situation from last season. If EP and Hughes don't become all-stars then we missed the boat at the draft....
- golfingsince

i dont get your point.. my point was more picks the more chance of getting quality players which in turn makes the team good

so everyone in the hockey world is wrong except for nut hugger canuck fans?

had this team rebuilt they would be nearing the point off being a playoff team but they detroyed any chance they have

- mauryballstein

They might have been in a different situation then they are right now. You can run some numbers, make some guesses. In the end, all we know is what has happened. There are certain things that just can't be compared.

If you traded Sutter for Bonino straight up you could.

Shinkaruk for Granlund is a win because Granlund has more NHL games and points then Shinkaruk right now.

Steve Simmons is an absolute hack. Always looking for dirt. Invents stuff for hits. No one should give "writers" like that the time of day. Much less click on any of his garbage.

Goaltending? Really? I thought Marky was average. Our d is what pisses me off not our goaltending
- CanuckDon

Dude, our D is nothing to write home about but Marky gave up a goal on the first shot how many times? Our goaltending sucked.

You're correct in that my way vs his way could've lead to the same path, although I very much doubt it. For me it's about his chosen path, I think it was wrong, and it's not hindsight because I've always disagreed with it.

So I'll continue to female dog and complain until he eventually gets it right or he's fired, because one of those two things will happen.

As I said on a previous blog, even the worst managed teams eventually get better because of the draft; the Oilers produced a 100+ point season two years ago.

The next guy who doesn't do what you say?

My point is that our team isn't as far away as you suggest. As I said earlier, Benning has amassed a significant pool of young talent despite himself.

It all depends on their assessment of the team and how they build. I don't agree with Benning's methods, never have. Hopefully the next guy is better.

his shot is exciting, but that only last for a fraction of a second

I have a feeling Ms Lefty has said something similar

Canucks were 26th in team save percentage. Teams that were worse such as the Oilers, Islanders, Buffalo, Carolina. Only Buffalo scored less goals then the Canucks. Only Carolina gave us less goals. Out of those teams.

Vancouver tied for most goals allowed in the first with NYR and NYI.

Aquaman just decided to listen to JB rather than TL. TL had enough. Made him kind of a pointless President I guess? He just had his 1st kid now. I'm sure saying home also had a role in this.

It's all about Brackett and Benning.

As for next years draft. I better see no less than 5 picks within the first 3 rounds. Or I say we riot!

Ya but context. Our defense allowed much higher quality scoring chances. Decent D would inflate their numbers

during the Canucks mic'd up draft video:

When Benning drafts Woo, watch Bracket and Wisebroad. They both say Woo at the same time as Jimbo.

Islanders, Oilers, Carolina all had better D on paper then Van. All had worse team save percentages.

Goaltending and defence both have to be better. Goalie needs to allow less freebies and D need to stop giving up the easy chances.

I have no interest in defending our goaltending. My only point is it’s near the bottom of a long list of problems

The only reason to think it's near the bottom of a long list of problems is because we're high on Demko. If he isn't in the picture than i'd say it's at or near the top.

I don’t think any GM could have came in at the same time as JB and waved a magic wand and made us good or fixed. We all know it’s a long process. Not sure how it could have sped up other then making JV a better pick.

Any coach worth his salt plays to the strengths of the team. If JB's strength is drafting, he certainly didn't play to it by trading so many picks.

No more bad contracts. I am sick of contracts that come with a TBD buy out date. We now have at least 4 (Beagle, Roussel, Eriksson, Gudbranson). Sutter is close to making it 5.
