I throw the question out to you guys, but other than Lundqvist, which we all figured a long term deal was going to be a no-bracket, who else signed a one year deal and then a long term extension when eligible?

Not many.
NYR simply doesn't feel that Hayes is in their future, past this year , or his demands.... financially, years or terms (NMC) we're too much.
I think Panarin ends up in NY, either this year through trade or next as UFA. I thought Hayes could’ve been a part of a deal, but now???? He can go anywhere he wants next season, which makes trading him that much harder. It’s possible he gets dealt at deadline as a rental. Best case scenario it’s to a bubble team that ends up missing playoffs!! It’s possible that time ran out and we kicked can down road... maybe he re signs? I doubt it. If they wanted him long term, they would’ve gotten it done. My concern with Hayes was I don’t believe he’ll age well. Signing him long term was risky. He’s a big guy who has to put in a lot of work at gym to keep his weight down. Maybe he didn’t want to sign long term? Boston a better long term option? I Definately think ntc played a big part, especially with expansion coming
Very Disappointing deal.
UNLESS they have agreed to come to the table later in the season to work on a longer term deal.
Bird in the hand syndrome here
They are taking him, an NHL experienced player with a track record, for granted because they have "prospects" that they THINK will make him expendable.
He only becomes expendable when those guys are able to actually play in an NHL season and produce, not 20 games or less.
Talk to the Islander fans about all the prospects they amassed for the last 20 years and how many actually panned out on

Just gotta trust the process. We have no idea what transpired behind closed doors, and what Gorton has planned.

Not really...Chytil and Andersson have showed promise, and what better year to go w/ them? Howden will probably be on big club by next year. If he stays healthy, Zib is a top notch 2nd or 1B center. One would think that a #1 Center is coming one way or another in the next few years. - rrentz
Haha. We all kind of just spinning our wheels lately
.I think we all need to see these players in action and not just on paper before we realize what NYR actually has acquired this past year or so
Big picture my man, big picture! - rrentz
I did not think so many people would have so many issues with the rebuild, especially because it was laid out like a red carpet in front of us. With divas and bling all over the motha effa. Like was this a surprise to people? Can’t they listen to or read team issued letters? haha
On Hayes, I’m of the impression all this deal did was give both the team and player more options. I’m not sold that he wouldn’t be on the 2019-20 roster.

I have mixed feelings as well. If he was signed long term, he could still be traded mid contract, but like I said, we have no idea what went down in negotiations, and as far as we know, Hayes might have insisted on NMC for him to sign a multi year deal. His agent isn't stupid, and can sense that Hayes would probably be odd man out in a year or two, and didn't want to sign a multi-year deal and then be traded. This way Hayes has 31 teams to chosse from as an UFA....even if he is traded at deadline. Makes sense on Hayes front
Everyone is assuming that NYR , and not Hyaes is the reason long term deal didn't get done.
