A freak!! Kid had 3 assists, all beauties. 3 on 3 OT Bovqist got 1 shift and that was 3 mins in. His couldn't care less and positioning in his zone is a reeeeeeeeal problem. He got beat 3 times that I saw in this one. - Mr Ricochet
Hughes was only picked one spot ahead of Boquist, but looked light-years ahead of him on the ice today..... |

Sets the price for Pacioretty I think. Bergevin probably not thrilled! |

Had a full NMC and, allegedly, he blocked at least a couple trades already.
Pretty (frank)ed up that he waived for BUFFALO though. |

You can't be thrilled with that return...former 3rd round pick prospect and no 1st rounder coming back to the Canes.....
I'd be excited to play with Eichel, Dahlin, and Mittlestat if I was Skinner. |

Keep in mind that Q.Hughes (Oct-99) is a year older than Boqvist (Aug-00). The difference between a 17 year old and an 18 year old can be a lot in terms of physical maturity.

Very true. Hey I'm not saying Boquist looked bad, but Quinn Hughes was an absolute beast on the ice with 3 highlight reel primary assists. The OT winning apple was unbelievable.....one pick away from getting him..... |

Sporting News had Pu ranked as Buffalo's 9th top prospect...good Junior numbers but Carolina cannot be happy with the market for Skinner |

My wife did some figure skating in her childhood. She will point out a figure skating technique whenever Skinner does one on the ice. He's pretty unique in this regard. - 333inthe3rd
I believe he was a figure skater before he decided to join the big boys and wear a sweater. Don't knock it as it helps you develop great edges for tight turns etc

Would add Gord Miller is my absolute favorite PBP guy. So prepared and fills any dead time with NHL, Olympic, Red Army, WJC, Summit Series story after story. Compare and contrast that with Edzo and Foley talking cookies. - Mr Ricochet
Gord Miller is fantastic. He's a great guy too. |

There is no doubt that Hughes can skate with the best of them and back those edges up with good hands which makes for a dynamic offensive player. I just wished he used those same skills in the d zone where they count. When I saw him a few times at UM, he was just that, a rover...very non-chalant in the D zone. Hence, that's the only question...can he play in the D zone against the literally big boys?

Genuinely curious as to why people were so negative about trying to trade for Hughes’ rights when I suggested it, then?
Is it because you think Vancouver would never do it? |

Maybe we'll see a Hughes (plus) for Boqvist (plus) trade in the near future, similar to the Berard/Redden deal back in the day.
Beaudin will have a better NHL career than Boqvist... Stan needs to part ways with this potential train wreck ASAP. |

Sarcasm aside, I’m excited to see him and Entwhistle play this weekend. Boquist is a long term prospect, that’s for sure. Saying Hughes is a better player today doesn’t mean Boquist is a bust, or even mean Hughes will be the better NHL Player. But dang, Hughes was dominant today and looks like he was the 2nd Dman off the board for good reason. |

What does the price for Skinner (prospect, 2nd, 3rd, 6th) do for the price to obtain Faulk? I know it’s not an apples to apples comparison, but is the return for this level of player not as much as we thought? |

And Calgary missed the playoffs.
If you have a guy who's not capable of scoring 10 goals with 3rd line minutes, that guy shouldn't be on the team at all. - BINGO!
And Brouwer was a major contributor to their 7th ranked PK, something the Hawks need help with. Brouwer is not the reason the Flames missed the playoffs. Major injuries down the stretch cost them a playoff spot.
Like I said, If Brouwer is playing a 4TH LINE role with Kruger and on the PK contributing important minutes so the skill guys don't have to do that anymore, it would be a big boost. Whether you think so or not, Troy Brouwer is a very valuable PK player and a defensively responsible guy. |

Would make sense to me Wiz.
Although AA would have to wave to go there, which isn't out of the questions.
However, if he does, the Hawks would need a C in return or find one somewhere else unless they go with:
Toews
Schmaltz
Kruger
Kampf / PTO / FA (like Vermette, Winnik, Letestu, etc)
That wouldn't be strong enough to compete night in and night out IMO. Also, if one of them go down, you don't have a lot in Rockford - maybe Ejdsell (he looks to be a better W), Luke Johnson or Jordan Schroeder. - Justin Lowe
Hawks, Bowman in particular, are pretty impressed with Luke Johnson. Read quote somewhere from Bowman that Johnson could surprise some and play for the big club at some point.

Yep - Johnson made some huge strides last year under Colliton. They are high on him.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him at some point in Chicago, just not sure he starts there. |

Flames just bought out Brouwer, I know it wouldn't be a popular move but I could see Stan signing him (to a 1-year deal) as a depth forward with an opportunity to fill that 2nd line LW hole.. If he's cheap than why not? 1-year $1,000,000.
You can never have too much depth, Brouwer does bring size and physicality, he's familiar with Q and Q is familiar with him, he knows the Hawks system..
I know it's not popular and it's by far the best option but what other options are there? giving up a top prospect or even a guy like Schmaltz for Patches? lol totally out of the question... Make a move on Nash? sure, but he's not sure he can play and how much better would he be than Brouwer at this point? he's be better but not by much - he would certainly be more expensive tho..
With that said I could certainly see Stan signing him to a cheap 1-year deal before Monday...
I mean if no teams have interest and he's still a UFA by training camp you can bet he would certainly be an invite (unless he turns it down).. And ideally that would be the best situation than signing him now.... Let him compete for a roster spot - see where he falls on the depth chart.. If he can be a stopgap until a more long-term solution can be found (Panarin) that would be ideal... |

Price would be the first issue. I think he would be able to get more than the Hawks would offer him. If he signs that would that limit what the Hawks can do at the TDL if they are good. Obviously if he is good and the Hawks are not they could flip him at the TDL for a mid round pick.
Term would be the next issue. I would only give him a one year contract without a NMC.
The third consideration is how much would he bring to the team. He has averaged 24 points and 75 games per year in the last two years. He is 32. Hayden had 13 points in 47 games playing on the bottom lines and not on the PP. Panik had 35 points between Hawks and Yotes and we could not wait to get rid of him.
And does he:
a) allow you to keep a player in Rockford to get more seasoning
OR
b) take some meaningful minutes from a young player that could gain valuable experience playing on the top line and PP.
I would be ok with bringing him in for 1 year at the right price, but not thrilled. - -Doh-
Brouwer was just bought out, look at the UFA's already left.... I could see him sit until he gets a camp invite...
But I like the idea of bringing back Brouwer - he's not the best option but at least the Hawks can get him for nothing... Just as long as it's a 1-year deal at $1,500,000 max I would be fine with it..... I'm not sure if he's the solutions at #2 left wing, however he is only a couple of years removed from playing 2nd line minutes, so maybe coming back to the Blackhawks would give him a spark -- he certainly will have an opportunity to play #2 LW, which is something a lot of teams wouldn't be able to offer.... Most teams top 6 are already set..
I think given the circumstances the Hawks and Brouwer makes sense... Besides, we all know Bowman loves to bring back former Hawks.....
The only reason why I think Stan may pass is because the Hawks do have a ton of NHL ready bottom 6 forwards, but even then it's hard to pass on Brouwer. He has size, he's a former Hawk, knows Q and what he expects...
The Hawks have a lot of depth tho, obviously the top 12 will see the NHL but the Hawks also have a lot of NHL ready depth in the AHL... So there will be plenty of guys competing for roster spots next month.
Saad-Toews-DeBrincat
Brouwer-Schmaltz-Kane
Edjsell-Anisimov-Sikura
Kunitz-Kruger-Hayden
T.Sikura-Kampf-Schroeder
Kahun-Johnson-Nilsson
Fortin-Martenson-Martinsen
I don't think the Hawk are as "terrible" as they appear.. I mean there are a ton of players there to find chemistry.. |
