Brouwer was just bought out, look at the UFA's already left.... I could see him sit until he gets a camp invite...
But I like the idea of bringing back Brouwer - he's not the best option but at least the Hawks can get him for nothing... Just as long as it's a 1-year deal at $1,500,000 max I would be fine with it..... I'm not sure if he's the solutions at #2 left wing, however he is only a couple of years removed from playing 2nd line minutes, so maybe coming back to the Blackhawks would give him a spark -- he certainly will have an opportunity to play #2 LW, which is something a lot of teams wouldn't be able to offer.... Most teams top 6 are already set..
I think given the circumstances the Hawks and Brouwer makes sense... Besides, we all know Bowman loves to bring back former Hawks.....
The only reason why I think Stan may pass is because the Hawks do have a ton of NHL ready bottom 6 forwards, but even then it's hard to pass on Brouwer. He has size, he's a former Hawk, knows Q and what he expects...
The Hawks have a lot of depth tho, obviously the top 12 will see the NHL but the Hawks also have a lot of NHL ready depth in the AHL... So there will be plenty of guys competing for roster spots next month.

I don't think the Hawk are as "terrible" as they appear.. I mean there are a ton of players there to find chemistry.. - Savard2Secord
Of the 21 skaters you mentioned - only 5 have ever played on a playoff series winning team - and only one of those doesn’t need to prove himself capable of a comeback season.
Not that they are a “terrible” team - only that the team is made up of mostly players coming off of very down seasons and unproven young players.
What does Brouwer add to the mix? Ok, I guess, if you think there are no potential 2Ls ready to move up (and I’m always for more minor league marination rather than less) but - too many returning heroes for my taste.

I would have to agree with the possible return of Brouwer BUT only these conditions and many of these have been mentioned I believe:
On the "cheap" one year deal and NO NTC; possible rental down the road
Does not impede Baby Hawks development and progress
Both of the stated above HAS to occur, not one or the other
Brouwer provides:
Winning experience and attitude
Grit, girth, and sandpaper to stick up for teammates line Kaner, Tazer, Schmaltzy
Possible ability to slide up and down line up, likely bottom 6
Proven PK guy
Net front presence, possibility on PP
Defensive draws, at least ties up guy where support comes in
Bottomline, it has to be a win-win and no lose proposition!

The Brouwer talk just needs to stop.
The Hawks don’t need him, and I highly doubt he would want to return.
Move on people. Let it go.
I understand the nostalgia factor, but The whole “getting the band back together” mentality has got to stop at some point.
Stop pining for guys just because you’ve heard of them FFS. |

There are valid reasons for bringing a player like Troy back, if that's what the Hawks do. There has been constructive discussion about pros and cons of bringing him in.
If you don't want to read about it or have been somehow upset by someone else's opinion on a player, maybe it's in your best interest not to come to an open message board. Quit being a Richard. |

I would tend to agree with you. Since the 2010 Cup the Hawks have had to move numerous guys, and there are very few of them who would be nice to have back.
Of all the guys who have gone the one player who is a force that would be great to have back would be Byfuglien, and I would doubt he is ever coming back.
I love Hjalmarsson, but the warrior he was over 8 years really took a toll on him. Last year was the first in which he missed significant time, it will be interesting to see what happens with him this season.
I know Savvyone pines for Leddy, and there is no doubt he has some physical skills, but I have never been a fan of his game. On any of the Hawks Cup teams he is a 3rd pairing d-man at best. He is still not great in his own end and makes the same mistakes that at this point in his career he should not be making.
A bunch of the other guys, Ladd, Frolik, Johns, Daley, Hutton, Niemi, Hartman and others are either overpaid, under performing or just Meh.
Would love Panarin back, but not at the cost he is going to command and I think ultimately TT will be overpriced as well |

So many bad habits set in young kids by bad coaches as mites and squirts. Poor skating techniques, poor skills, no understanding of passing and teamwork, play to win at all costs (or chose the kids with the hot moms).
Teaching kids proper skating techniques is the foundation for everything going forward. Also, don't let the kid that maybe a little more advanced in his technique just go end to end when he gets the puck. Teach him to use teammates, pass the puck and learn other aspects, even if it is at the cost of a few wins.
It amazes me how many kids I have seen that get to the AAA and Jr's levels of hockey, that still have such poor edge work, overall skating skills and game knowledge. - TheTrob
I agree with both of you. As a guy with younger kids (son is too young still) I like to watch the practices before my game(s) as I tape my stick and see what drills, practices these guys run. Needless to say most of these guys don't know a damn thing and some guys are good at coaching skills but not skating, and others are skating coaches but don't know a thing about the game itself. Very rare to find 1 who does both well....especially at a young age.
And the humorous part for me is watching these parents lose their damn minds either during games or practices before our mens leagues over their kids ice time, who they are skating with, etc....apparently every kid in hockey is a future NHL star. I now know that... |

Had a full NMC and, allegedly, he blocked at least a couple trades already.
Pretty (frank)ed up that he waived for BUFFALO though. - BINGO!
Why the Hurricanes make this trade, I know he is a free agent agent the end of the season but shouldn't they be going all out to make the playoffs this year. Makes no sense to me. |

That trade is a bad return for Carolina, and bad news for Columbus as they are probably looking to trade Panarin before losing him as a UFA. |

100% agreed.
Sharp was a disaster.
Versteeg was bad his 1st year coming off his injury, much better his 2nd year when they won the cup.
Ladd was a disappointment.
IF Kruger can stay healthy at best he's a 4th line center.
Saad has been a disaster since he came back.
Appreciate what these guys did, when they did it, and move along.

Possibly but we don't know what, if any, other offers were made for Skinner and if he refused to waive.
Panarin, Faulk, and Pacioretty all do not have any NTC/NMC so their GMs can solicit any offer and the prices you have to think to land 1 of the 3, will be a helluva lot higher.
This is where Bowman has failed in the past with his constant giving out NMC/NTC to players and pigeon holing himself to where he can send a guy. |

I would've loved to have Skinner for a similar trade package as what Buffalo acquired him for. I was expecting 1st and top prospect given his goal scoring ability and age. three 30 goal seasons and almost 40 last year on a bad team |

I just think unless other prices come down this roster very well could be what this team rolls out come opening night.

Mark Stone gets a 1YR/$7.35MM deal for being a 60pt guy.
So now ask yourselves - if Schmaltz repeats or bests his 52 pt season, how comfortable would everyone be having to pay him $6.5-7MM per to keep him? That not only eats up all of Hossa's cap hit savings, but another $1.25-2MM on top, which would be a good part of any cap increase the following year.
Again, the choking contracts at the top of the Hawks' pay scale still put Bowman in a position where it costs him more to go backwards.

Part of it is cap space moving forward...
Aho and TT are going to eat up about $14 million combined if they sign long term, and the team only has a handful of forwards signed for next season. |

Mark Stone is a freaking beast. Big body, close to the top of the league in takeaways, and with little to no support on that putrid Ottawa team puts up close to a PPG. In theory, longer term = lower cap hit, and vice versa, so that should be taken into account. I have no idea what Ottawa is doing, but Mark Stone just became another top Trade Deadline target for contenders with his expiring cap hit.

Totally agree on all of that.
The issue here is the impact that signing will have on pricing for other players going forward.
All the more reason for a guy like Schmaltz to wait things out until next year.
The scenario works like this - it is equivalent to trading a healthy Hossa for a 25% more expensive deal to keep Schmaltz. That is going backwards. Less net cap space to work with to at best maintain status quo.

Ugh TT Time....
ADB is at best a role player on a line with size and grit where the other two maintain possession.
Monumentally stupid to overpay the role players when you have no true "core" players to replace the geriatrics. |

Schmaltz is an RFA next summer, right? I'd try to lock him up ASAP bc the market right now for 60 point players is over $6mil. If he has improved his strength this summer, and is playing with Kane all year, he will push for 70 points and then you're looking at closer to $8mil cap hit.

Would be awesome to see somewhat of a "rebirth" from #7 this year and then send him to a team desperate for defense and "leadership" before the Trade Deadline. I've seen enough of Anisimov, too. Big guy can finish and does some things well, but too injury prone, too slow, and too big a cap hit to be centering a 3rd line 5v5. |

Yes he is an RFA, with the key words being NEXT YEAR. If he has even an ounce of self-confidence in his ability to take it to another level, there is no way if I were his agent that I would ever start talking contract until next summer.
No way he agrees to an earlier deal unless SB overpays now. |

It's Stanley Bowman.....so that sounds about right. 8yrs x $7mil with FULL No Trade Clause...and I'm not being facetious I'm guessing that's what he gets. |
