Nylander should start in Rochacha and we don't have any other top6 lw prospects ready.

My definition isn’t arbitrary,
the so called “accepted” one is
It’s not a “judgement call” to KNOW that Dahlin & Mittelstadt will be on our roster
Guys like Guhle, sure
If someone is a tweeter like that,
then i have no issue listing them as a prospect
U really gonna consider Dahlin a prospect in game 60 when he’s playing 20+ minutes a night
For me, that doesn’t make sense
You can’t be a “prospect” if you’re on the team! - jdfitz77
I don't think you know what arbitrary means then.

Maybe Botts will still be able to swing a deal for another LW and this will all be moot
My possible Rochester lines make me think they could be pretty sweet
Smith-O’Regan-Thompson
Olofsson-Asplund-Nylander
Oglevie-Malone-Pu
Vet line: Porter, Criscuolo, etc - jdfitz77
JBotts needs to get rid of some NHL contracts...like 4 - 5 would be ideal.
I am hoping Larssons and Girgs are 2 of them.
I would love to see him find a way to get rid of Bogo, Pommer nor Okposo...those high priced/under performing guys, but I dont see that happening.
One of Bailey or Baptiste is included in a trade along with LhD, probably Scandella
Hopefully what The Clown and Sabres89 are hearing about a 4:1 trade is forthcoming and clears out say Bailey, Scandella and a couple of draft picks. Hell, throw in Larson with 50% salary retained.

Saying a roster player isn’t a prospect isn’t arbitrary
Saying that until game 65 he’s a prospect & then at game 66 he’s not...
that is arbitrary

Do u consider roster players prospects?
I don’t see how you can call someone a “prospect” if they’re playing for us on a nightly basis |

Watch out, agreeing with me is a slippery slope. You'll be supporting the Wall soon. Stuff like that. Just kidding.
I see where you're coming from with the prospects stuff. I would like to see a ranking where they subtract players who are projected NHL players the following season as well. Might be best to have both, in order to truly understand strength of prospect pool. |

Nice post sir
Now if something like that happens,
then obviously I’ll drastically change my idea of what our opening night roster will look like
I think it’s reasonable that we could move out 2 of Larsson, Girgs & Sobatka
We only need one of them for 4C
Agree on Pommer & Okposo & Bogosian...
but at this point, i think we might be stuck with them for this season
Next year...
-Pommer is UFA, so he’s definitely gone
-Bogo will only have 1 yr left, so he should hopefully be movable
-hopefully Okposo bounces back, making him movable
*then we see 3 of the kids take their roster spots...
i just don’t think it’ll happen this offseason
I’m pretty much aboard the trade Scandella train too
Not bc i dislike him, but bc i think he’s got more trade value than McCabe, and i don’t see them both here long term (and i like McCabe)
Scandella + one of the kids for a top4 RH def... is even throw in a 1st if it’s for the right guy (Trouba?)
Get us a RH guy for Guhle to be paired with for years
*i still like Bailey, so I’d rather see a different kid moved, but i know that’s probably an unpopular opinion here |

Or just wait till mid-season to put it out
Then guys who are clearly roster players like Dahlin & Svechnikov aren’t being called “prospects” |

Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has committed to the Sudbury Wolves. Buffalo Sabres' second-round pick in 2017 NHL Entry Draft was Sudbury's third-overall choice in the CHL Import Draft at the end of June. Full story to come. #ohl |

Are Dahlin and Mittelstadt on the roster? Source? I haven’t heard anyone from the Sabres announce anything yet. Until then, as in right now, as in when the article was written, they are both prospects. Penciling them in is arbitrary. |

Wouldn't mind removing them at midterm, seeing as they will be NHL players by then.
Still need my fix over summer. I'm going a little squirrely here not playing OR watching hockey. One more month and I'm back on the ice, thank god. |

Ok, so when does a young player on the roster stop being labeled a “prospect” then?
On what arbitrary game do they cross that threshold?
Game 40? Game 20?
Mittelstadt & Dahlin are roster players,
not “prospects” - jdfitz77
Your answer begs its own question. When does a young player become “on the roster?”
This is why the best way to do define prospect is the day before the season opens. Not Aug 2. Or game 60. |

I’d agree with that line of thinking for guys like Guhle...
do you really think there’s ANY chance that Dahlin & Mitts aren’t roster players this year?
Forget the pencil...
You can Sharpie them into the lineup

That’s not the point. Everything laid out in the article is cut and dry. Everything you’re saying is subjective and arbitrary. Jesus Christ.
I remember a 2nd overall pick from a couple years ago that people thought was on an nhl team, went back to juniors for the year. |

Puts him on a slower path to the AHL,
but I’m cool with that
Kinda surprised though

Smith was an AHL all star, and AHL all-star MVP
Olofsson led the swedish professional hockey league in goals.
Idk, I think these guys are ready for their shot. Yeah, the ice is smaller in Olofsson's case, but the net is the same size, and that's his game |

Completely fair
I’m just talking about OBVIOUS cases like Mittelstadt & Dahlin
Even though the Sabres haven’t ANNOUNCED they’d be on the roster,
everyone can comfortably project they will be |
