Because your hero Chiarelli spent all our money?

He's not my hero... I gave him credit for getting the team to the playoffs.

Because iggys crusty personality rubbed off in you and you need to get laid (by a chick not a dude that looks like a chick).

Our roster is far more comparable to the Sabres than it is the Washington Capitals. That’s pathetic.

Sure...he cashed in the assets Lowe and Mac t collected and made some quick fixes for short term gain. I credit him with that and the following season and the season we’re heading into.

Bullpoop. When this team is winning the City and the fans are stoked. We’re you not in Edmonton in the late 90’s?
- HonkyTonkMan

Bunch of band wagoners here. Even the last time we were in the playoffs people on here and HF were bashing the Oilers.

Even the Esks, win three and it's like (frank)ing doom and gloom

Is this true? If that’s the case it’s because he wanted to be closer to home.

He was blocking all sorts of trades. Was suppose to be first guy dealt this summer

Close to home and a chance to play with a pretty good center to boost his numbers in free agency.

It is funny how little he went for though. As if one dimensional soft wingers are worth very little

I think your exaggerating...but if you were a life long Oilers fan you were spoiled with a decade of being the best team of all time followed by 2decades of a hard working/under funded hockey, followed by 10 years of being the laughing stock of the league.... how do you blame any Oilers fan for being bitter.

We were better, much, much , better when we had no money and were never be a serious threat . The 97-98 rag tag Oilers would kick this team’s ass all over tarnation.

The cup run was bad for this club. So many people became Oiler fans. People that never really paid much attention and don't understand what it actually means to be a sports fan.

They say Pu is a pretty good prospect, and an additional 3draft picks for 1year of service. Even still, when you’re dealing with movement clauses it limits your return. Even a dippoop like you can see the return is below value, just like the return for Taylor Hall was....then again maybe you can’t.

Yeah, they didn’t understand the frustration of the pre lockout era for small market clubs. Slats rebuilt that core and one by one he had to trade them to a richer team or let them walk at free agency.
But those teams worked hard, could skate and were amongst the biggest physically in the league. If you liked lots of hitting it was great Hockey to watch.

I like how it's being spun as 4 assets. I hope we make a trade where there is 2 average pieces going and then we include the next 10 years worth of 7 rounders.

The value isn't below if you really look at it. It's been very clear since before the draft that Skinner is done in CAR. He has a NMC or NTC. He wasn't going to be doing any favours for CAR.

They like the Habs (frank)ed themselves by allowing information to leak that they will be dealing a player. That and at 6mil Skinner is very similar to Eberle in that yes they have a decent skill set, but you really need to make sure they are a fit for your club before dealing for them.

The other thing that I'm wondering is even if Skinner doesn't re-sign in Buffalo. Odds are they can get a similar or potentially even better package for Skinner at the deadline.

The only thing that could screw them up is an injury.

And even if they don’t, it was a small price to pay to add some insulation to a young forward core still developing.

Gonna have to firmly disagree on MacTavish not qualifying as a failure. His abject failures in talent evaluation (Nikitin), his blase attitude towards respecting some of his key players (Petry, Dubnyk), his absolute inability to acquire support players of significance (Ference and Gordon) and his fear of making moves are precisely what led us to the hiring of a guy with a track record of making big moves at a loss in value.

Change for the sake of change became appealing due to MacTavish's absolute incompetence in moving the team forward and his further inability to conceptualize any manner of plan to his team's fans. MacTavish's ONLY redeeming quality is his unwillingness/inability to make a big move because he was worried about losing the trade- all while his team continued to lose games.

If you're going to trash on Chiarelli, at least be reasonable and recognize that MacTavish's brand of incompetence was equally awful for the team. Despite his faults (of which there are many), at least Chiarelli can and does acquire support pieces, has a clear identity for his team and his staff's drafting philosophy seems to make sense. The argument can easily be made that the road to Chiarelli's biggest misplay (Hall for Larsson) was paved by MacTavish's incompetence ("testing" Petry).

I would say that this is true. I heard this from a guy who works within the Habs org. that I play beer-league with from time to time. He is also related to someone that you'd know his name for sure. It is probably the 1000th time a player has turned down playing in MTL for more money. When you've got a choice of where to relocate your family, where your kids are educated, how much you pay in taxes, etc. etc. etc....Montreal is not the place. You really don't see many family guys signing with the Habs.

How many average people would move to Montreal for 10 or 20% more money?

If you are single then ya, it makes some sense. But if you are a family man you need to be getting quite a bit of money to move there.

Its no coincidence they draft heavy from the KHL and the Q. Language challenges are ever present in Quebec, even with a large English speaking population in Montreal. I love Montreal and Quebec City, stunning and as close to "old Europe" that exists. But I would have a tough time moving my family there...

You give out 9 month bans but can't get ruttager unbanned? Not impressed.
