I'm thinking back over the years about almost every time Linden departs somewhere, there is some kind of stink about back stabbing. More times than not anyways. Think about it. Without picking sides, it has to be acknowledged that he felt back stabbed by Keenan and Messier and was vocal about it. Next was his job at the NHLPA and he was accused of being the backstabber himself(changing course on the hold out). When he came back to the Canucks and Gillis forced his retirement, Linden felt back
stabbed because he hadnt made his mind up. He had a regular spot on 980am with Dan Russel after that and the theme was about that often. Then he gets fired from the front office and here we go again.... back stabbed.
Mr Humble pie may not be so humble. We project something far different than the people who work with him do. Media loved him... so always we sided with him as a player as he was a great leader. To be honest... his leadership swirled down the poopter after 94 and Keenan said the same thing back then. Seems to be a theme ever since as well. - boonerbuck
Hmmm..... seems to be a bit of a conspiracy, no? |

He shook Quinn's hand at their draft table after he was drafted in that "behind the scenes" or "all access" piece and said something like "bet you didnt think that was going to happen". I think he was also there in the jet woo all access one as well. I just dont think he went up to the podium when quinn was drafted
I cant find the quinn video. But here is the canucks 2018 draft video. Trevor is in the bottom right corner.

He did undercut Goodenow for sure. People can decide whether that was the right move at the time or not. I don't think it was, but it was a crazy time in the league.
And Keenan's trade of Linden to NYI for Bertuzzi and McCabe did help set up the rise of the team in the next decade - Bertuzzi as part of the WCE and McCabe used by Burke to get one of the picks that got us the Sedins. Messier is/was an ass, and Keenan's time with Van was mainly a poopshow, but that deal...that deal was win for us. It helped he was trading with Mike Milbury the hands down dumbest GM in modern history...
Linden does seem to be a rather vain guy, slightly self-righteous. Loved him as a player but his off-ice work - including the PA and of course with the Canucks - has not been the stuff from which legends are made. Better he goes back to being the gym manager.
94 was a long time ago, and since then for Linden, as Slow might say, things "Have Not Been the Same"

Linden 2014
“I have had a great conversation with Francesco and his family and they have given me full control to make the right decisions and full autonomy,” he said. “Obviously, in any sport organization a good working relationship with ownership is important and I intend to spend a lot of time working with them and having them fully understand the decisions we make and why, but ultimately I am very comfortable with the autonomy that I have.” |

Canucks twitter retweeted this. Apparently we have the 3rd best prospect pool in the NHL.
The same site also rates Pettersson as the #1 pipeline player for the upcoming 2 seasons ahead of Svechnikov and Dahlin (Cody Glass at 31st)
For what it's worth they have Hughes down at 28th and Demko at 30th - NorthNuck

Obviously the dynamics changed as he said that four years ago. Once in grade three I said I wanted to be an astronaut, things changed, NASA wasn't hiring when I took them up on my idea 40 years later |

They could be pretty good fairly soon.
Flyers on the other hand will continue to circle the drain with no goaltending and D.

Crazy how high boqvist is ranked, I'm not surprised, happy with Hughes but would have loved boqvist to. Dobson and bouchard are ranked as well.... depth ranked, but I don't think any hockey people are surprised by that. |

He was also head of the NHLPA when he played as well. I remember there being no love lost when he moved on there either. |

I never understood all the admiration. I think because things have been so horrible in Canucks history , anyone that does something respectable is put on a pedestal .
Thank God for NHL greats like Linden Smyl or else the rafters would be bare

I wonder what number jack will want to wear? It's gonna get crowded in the rafters after him and Quinn retire. |

Smyl have a chance to sneak in as President? If he or any other former Canuck does does we have gone full Oilers. Dark days. |

Unlike most here I think we will be to good for 1stOA and not good enough for the playoffs. im guessing 8 points out of a playoff spot. |

I don't think he will be president. As dumb as Ownership/management are they have some real good pieces in their management system . I like RyJo Cull Green and Brackett . I think the next move should be Johnson up with Canucks and find a clone for him on the Comets. |

What former Canuck has the education to run the Comets? Thats the kind of thing Imdont mind seeing former players get a shot at if they have put in their time. |
