It's funny I saw the trade news and thought pretty good on Carolina getting what Skinner was worth while he still has good value. Then I read comments and replies on twitter and everyone is saying Carolina got hosed
I don't get it. I think it's a perfectly fine deal for the Hurricanes - NorthNuck
Same. I thought it was a fair trade for both sides. Carolina frees up some room for their brewing AHL talent and Buffalo fills a hole in there lineup, that should help get them out of 31st place. |

Even better then Dobson? š§š§š³ - Pres.cup
Anyone with half a brain knew the order for defensman in the draft should have been: Dahlin- Hughes-Dobson. Dobson has looked amazing so far in the showcase. Dobson and Hughes are close and picking Dobson would be defendable |

Hopefully Quinn Hughes can come in and have an offensive impact like Torey Krug did with Boston. They play a similar style game. Skating and offence.
I worry about Hughes abilities to defend, he won't have the puck every minute of every game, he's not gonna win many puck battles in the NHL.
Krug came into the NHL at 22 years old so he was physically more mature and he spent one year in the AHL but he produced a 40 point season right away. - LeftCoaster
Hughes strength defending is no one is getting away on him. He'll be poking at the puck the entire time. Board battles are another story....

I've got lots of criticism of Benning, certainly no big fan, but this whole backstabbing narrative is making a high suspense drama over a more banal situation. It's pretty clear, Linden changed his tune on the direction of the Canucks and the owner was not down for it. I'm glad at least Benning had his say because the save Linden's legacy blitz that has been on this past week is pretty revolting. TL took a job he wasn't qualified for, hired Benning, Shakey Willie and fired Gilman, but suddenly he is "blindsided" by the quick turnaround plan. Please, spare me.
The one good thing about Benning is he is so bad at building a competitive team that the team will tank and be on the long term rebuild plan anyway. - TheGatewaytoHell
I like this. A lot of people laughed when I said JB would lose and draft for 4 or 5 years... it happened. More picks would of been nice. Not sure anymore why... I use to accept he was just bad at it but there were divides so more picks may or may not have been as easy as people make it sound.
Benning will be gone by the draft like I expected. Someone else is doing a good job at it now. DW isnt being pressured to pick local boys so his job looks a lot more polished. None the less, the path for the next management team is in motion. A well stocked pool of young players and prospects after this next draft will have to be managed differently once these guys all start finding their game soon. |

How can you be so sure he will be gone? He go hired into a position he wasnāt ready for, he got a contract extension even though he promised a competitive team and produced among the worst in the league 3 years in a row, and he outlasted the person who hired him.

Why?
Benning said today I don't get involved with politics . I have enough trouble finding Dmen to play on the PP ( That is troubling) (Not something you should openly admit as a GM trying to rebuild a team)
Next
If we were trying to make the playoffs I would have signed Neal not Beagle. ( Beagle must feel very good hearing that and are you saying Beagle isn't very good ?Then why did you sign him?)
Benning is a dummy make no mistake about it . - VANTEL
Vantel.. do you really need to spin poop like this. I thought you were a tiny bit above that.

Ya was thinking the same thing earlier. Beagle would surely be impressed to hear that. Benning is on a 12 month plan from FA and I'm willing to bet two of those months have already passed. I say he has about 10 months until he has the 'big meeting' with FA lol - LordHumungous
I'm worried about people who project that Beagle thinks he's an over the top player to get the Canucks to the playoffs. He got a contract he wants. Clearly.... if he were signing for playoffs again instead of cashing in on last years playoffs... he'd be elsewhere.

my 2 cents on Linden;
I wondered why Linden wasn't seen at the draft. How is it that the team president wasn't on hand for the 7oa pick?
Maybe he wasn't wanted there? Perhaps he wasn't on board with the direction taken on drafting?
I doubt JB had anything to do with lindens departure but I would not doubt that FA fingered JB in delivering the news to linden - SMBDragon
Linden wanted Fin to be at the draft and kept sliding when he showed up. I would have fired him too....

Bennings words were spot on. If he wanted the playoffs his focus wouldnāt be on the bottom 6. He wants a little bit of grit, some hard working mentors and organizational depth. Seems rationale? |

I'm no Benning fan, but I agree. He did what he's done since day 1, just overpay for veteran mentor role players. That doesn't indicate that he's trying to make a push for the playoffs. |

I never saw him there. I went and looked at photos of the 2018 draft table and no Linden there.
when hughes was selected theres no linden on stage either. Green is there and even a little girl, but no team president! I think that says a lot!

2) you think FA told Benning to fire or give the news that he is fired to his boss? - Codes1087
I'm saying I wouldnt doubt that FA blamed JB for the firing to an irate linden |

I disagree. You people talk about gifting spots to young players, but thatās what you really want. Is Pettersson going to play in the NHL this year? If he does, is he a top 6 forward? What happened to earning your ice time? Signing a legit NHL top 6 forward would have been a better way to shield your young players. Just like how Bo started as the 4th line C and quickly proved he was better than the players ahead of him. |

Any overpayment can be absorbed. Its not hurting us & 4th year buyouts are no probs. We donāt expect to have any cap issues for a few years at the least if at all. |

1st off i believe in earning.
He has earned it by his results & is ready.
Earning is not the AHL for every prospect.
Define your idea of earning?
Gifting was McCann & JV
Yes EP is a top 6 F.
Bottom 6 makes 0 sense.
TOI is another story & TGās call
Legit top 6 F was supposedly LE.
Signing another that isnāt even available is a road block & against the grain. |

Blah blah blah. How can you say he has earned it when he has never even played a game in North America? You saying that McCann didnāt earn a look in camp that year? He certainly wasnāt used as a top 6 forward. Everyone says donāt gift spots for kids, but they do it for veterans. And then JB announces that it will be young skilled players in the top 6 responsible for improving scoring this season. Sounds like heās not only gifting spots, but gifting the good spots. |
