Artemi Panarin would ‘seriously consider’ returning to Blackhawks in 2019, per report https://www.secondcityhoc...cy-reports-rumors-updates
- Mr Ricochet

Not that I expect it to happen, but is Panarin setting up the scenario where he returns on a decent deal (ie $7.5 million)? While I’m sure he wants to maximize his earnings (which is his right) he seems like a guy that’s less motivated by money than most.

Stan trading Hossa and not using the cap space allows the team to cover all the team’s bonuses this season (which could be huge if Kahun hits) and not interfer next year.

I’m calling Kahun as the breakout player this year.

I remember reading somewhere that Panarin went thru a bit of hardship growing up (aka didn't grow up spoiled with expectations of the world) so I'd venture a guess that he's fairly grounded and looks at overall happiness, quality of life (potential teammates) instead of just a numbers game to maximize his earnings.

There should be caution for people throwing in Sikura into trades imo. Sikura could have gone FA but trusted the Hawks when they said they see him in their plans, so how would it look to other NCAA players if they were to trade him the summer he could have picked any team he wanted?

The Hawks already have a history of a NCAA kid going the FA route, adding in that the Hawks would immediately trade someone who did sign wouldn't be the best move. The Hawks like to draft players from NCAA programs a decent amount. I wouldn't say Sikura is untouchable by any means but just think any trade with him would come with some risk beyond losing a potentially good young cost controlled player.

Good point its just out of fun doubt he would get traded unless an offer came hawks could not refuse. Kid has the talent and skill just needs some seaoning and time to get bigger and stronger.

Fairly significant hardship based on the articles I've seen. There's a good 3 part Russian TV documentary on him that someone was kind enough to subtitle in English:

https://www.youtube.com/w...0zwvpaatOyo&frags=pl%2Cwn

The stories about his grandfather's pushing him remind me of the stories Kane has told about his own father.

They did this with Michael Paliotta a few years back. Originally 3rd rounder, played all 4 years at Vermont (almost ppg as a dman and team captain senior year), then signed and got into an NHL game.

They added him into the Saad for Anisimov trade in the summer. I always wondered if any of the prospects noticed that. It was the year after Kevin Hayes so it didn't affect his decision.

This is 100% true. I think the cost controlled player aspect is a bit more important the Hawks need to take advantage of young guys playing well while under decent contracts. We don’t know if Sikura will make it as a legit NHLer, but I think he has a good shot. My guess...Sikura is a mainstay on the third line and sees time on the second PP unit this season.

Yeah, though Paliotta wasn't near the quality and/or attention level of Hayes or Sikura coming out of college. Solid but considered still a couple years away, if he ever was to make the NHL (he wasn't qualified by Columbus and has been traded around the AHL so at 25 it's slipping away).

I think luckily the Hawks have been a great team at keeping up with even their 'lowliest' prospects while at college. Like I said, Sikura shouldn't be untouchable (for the right deal, I'd trade almost any of the prospects), just caution for any perceived impact it could have to other NCAA players.

Oh I know it's just meant to keep conversation going. It's just something that I read about once - that NCAA players do keep track of the goings around other college players. It was in an article about Tkachuk. Not the 'don't trade NCAA players when they could have gone FA' part - the part about college kids following careers of others like them, even if they're not necessarily friends.

There's been fan chatter regarding Colliton eventually being Hawks head coach down the line after Q's tenure comes to an end. Colliton should at least be a candidate when that time comes.

I wonder, though, if Hawks director of player development Mark Eaton is worthy of consideration down the line as well. Played a dozen or so years at D in the NHL. Don't think he was ever a top 4 d-man but neither was Colliton who played only 50 some odd games for the Isles across a few seasons before ending his career in Europe.

Even if not a head coach candidate, maybe an assistant coach position for Eaton is in the cards. Just a thought.

Adam Boqvist (CHI) seemed to look as comfortable as he has throughout camp tonight. Seemed a little hesitant to shoot at times, but I thought he used his skating really well, made better reads overall, limited mistakes and didn't let himself get overpowered.

How many Hawks' prospects are playing in the showcase? What team has the most?

Hawks have 3. Boqvist (SWE), Beaudin and Entwistle (CAN). Wise (USA) was invited and an early cut. ...Don't know who has the most but when I run across that I'll post.

Count me in on the "don't trade" Sikura front as I have been singing his praise all along having followed him (NE) and his brother (Dartmouth College) for awhile. Give this kid a chance and he will prove that he belongs but he needs to be on the ice with players like can think like him, "slowing the game/plays down in your brain while still playing fast".

Saw a bit of Boqvist for the first time in live action on the NHL network vs Canada. Let's just say my verdict is "uneven"! In no way I am saying he was terrible. He got a lot of TOI especially on the PP but his unit did not score. You could tell that he was very comfortable and poised with the puck. When Qbacking the PP, he seemed to move around a lot, dare I say ROVER. One second, he is at the point, next he is at the off wing one-timer position, and even sometimes down low and not even a step-down interchange... maybe it's Sweden's scheme to confuse. Unfortunately, he did not get challenge on the D end but he did look OK. The only thing is that he tends sometimes want to go forward offensively when maybe or instead helping out D partner with diagonal behind support or bare minimum lateral support. But you can definitely see his offensive skating, skill, and instincts are there!

Zo, I admitted that no way in hell did I ever see Schmaltz showing an ounce of heart after watching him play 2 yrs jrs, that I was indignant when they took him with Fabbri on the board. It was this player who changed my opinion of paid scouts.

Now Schmaltz is not a finished product yet and even if he never gets an iota better I was wrong on him. I see the same lazy lackadaisical play from Bovqist. And like when they took Schmaltz over Fabbri I wanted Wahlstrom, and maybe even Dobson, over Boqvist so I was/am pissed.

But I learned from Schmaltz and I will now defer to the paid people (but will always lose my money on my horse not someone elses pick). How in God's name could they see Schmaltz shedding his alligator arms, perimeter Charmin soft play from the Jr level I wouldn't figure out if I lived to be 500 yrs old.

I read somewhere that Bovqist compares to Tyson Barrie, may have that kind of career/ceiling. Not bad but I want more out of the 8th overall.

Don't worry, only place Sikura is getting traded is on this board. Can't see the Hawks trading him for all the reasons you just mentioned, as well as they are now in a development mode.

Don't care what you hear at the convention, they know they aren't winning the SC, and they aren't trading every top prospect they have for a bunch of Carolina Hurricanes, ( I still can't believe everyone wants a bunch of players who aren't good enough to ever make the playoffs themselves).

I know most think the Hawks FO are all idiots. I see trades proposals that have DCat, Schmaltz, Sikura going out, and usually for vets.

They aren't doing that, not matter how many times people propose it here. Now if you want to talk about some D depth moving, I could see them doing it, but those forwards Stan has said all the time are the future, and they want to sign them to long term deals.

Also Ian Mitchell. - so the Hawks have 5 players although 4 of those players were on Canada's split squads to maybe not all of them make it if the roster is combined.

I watched the game on NHLN too and thought Boqvist and his most times d-parrtner Ginning were the best d-men on the Swedish team ... but that's not saying much because I thought the other d-men and the Swedish team in general were not very good. The other Swedish d-men were as bad a group of Swedish d-men than I remember seeing. Either that or Canada was just a whole lot better and overwhelmed them. Boqvist was the youngest of the bunch and I thought it looked like he had more poise then the rest of them with the possible exception of Ginning.

Looking forward to catching the games today.
