I would rather pay now for long term potential rather than wait until after he plays a full season with Eichel and Skinner or Sheary. Look at Draisaitl. After a season playing with McD he goes from 51 points to 77 points and signs for 8 years at $8.5m. If you can sign Reinhardt for 8 years at $7m or less I think it could be a good deal. Otherwise we could be looking at much larger number if he has a breakout season, which many should expect playing on a real top scoring line in the NHL now. |

Now now Gordong be positive just say f him but hopefully he gets his life together and seeks help and he builds off that story for his next career - gerbe75pts
He definitely needs help, The dude is just not right. Playing more nfl games is probably the worst thing he could do for any kind of future.

That's a ton of money. 500k less than Stone who was over a point per game. |

I’m hoping Nylander Is on his line It will get him some confidence And the engines will start moving - gerbe75pts
The best hope for nylander is playing with aspland in Rochester this year, maybe some of aspland work ethic will rub off on him. I actually think playing with him might be what nylander needs.
If he is not the best player in the prospect tournament (by far) he has no chance of making this roster.

Anything more than $6.5M and I bridge him. If he can commit to anywhere between $6M-6.5M I can see the sense in giving him the long term deal now. |

3) Alex Nylander
When the Sabres selected Alex Nylander eight overall in the 2016 draft, there was understandable excitement. After all, they were getting a player who arguably should have been picked higher.
As a creative playmaker and talented scoring, Nylander was just what the Sabres were looking for. And yet, fair or not, this coming season is an important one for the winger.
That’s because the 20-year-old has not made as much progress as expected. And we’re not even talking about the NHL level, where he has a couple of points in seven appearances over two seasons.
During his first year in the AHL with the Rochester Americans, Nylander actually finished with the worst +/- rating on the team (-24). And his second season got off to a terrible start, when he missed the first two months through injury.
Unfortunately for the Calgary, Alberta native, even when he did return, his situation didn’t particularly improve. This was best exemplified by being demoted to the fourth line and losing his power-play spot during the first round of the AHL playoffs, as the Amerks were swept by the Syracuse Crunch. |

Agreed, but that is only a one year deal and Stone will cash in next year.
Stone, arguably Ottawa’s best forward, is asking for $9 million, while the Senators are countering at $5 million.

He wanted $9m per, so if gets that next year and we're paying Sam $7m per, would that not seem fair?

Honestly I think management has soured on him so much he might not even get the chance to improve within the organization at this point.... we really could use another fast talented winger, it a shame.
If I where a betting man I think he will be a piece that is included in a future deal.

Stone earned that $7.5, though. Reinhart hasn't earned $7m.
He's increased his point totals by 3-4 points every season. If that continues, we're looking at 55 points this season. I don't see the benefit for the Sabres to sign him at $7 because there's very little upside, unless you think he'll be a consistent 70 point player. |

I am a big Reinhart supporter but I am still in the "show me" phase. 2 years X $5 million. PK Subban bet on himself and won big-time. I wonder if Sam will do the same? |

Rochester forwards in no particular order:
Olofsson-Asplund-Nylander
Smith-O’Regan-Thompson
(Vet forward)-Malone-Oglevie

This is true, but if you wait, there is a real potential for him to make considerably more in two years. If you have to pay over market value now, but believe that it is saving you long term cap space, then you still make the deal yes?
Not saying one way or another, just playing devils advocate. |

I remember having this argument with ppl when Myers signed the long term deal and i thought he should’ve gotten a Luke Schenn type bridge deal
Let’s say Sam does really well during a 2 year bridge deal
What’s he scoring? 60-65pts?
Ok...
what does that get him for a long term deal in 2 years?
How much?
And how many years? |

We don’t know. The certainty is the motivation to get the long term deal done now. |
