Sobotka throws his weight around in terms of forwards. .

We don’t have a d-man under 6’2. Sobotka throws his weight around in terms of forwards. Berglund isn’t small by any means but won’t hit anyone.

I think we can too.

My point is that just saying our problem was one thing or the other is just nuts.

It was literally everything

It was one thing, not enough talent.

Sure, to simplify it. But coaching played a small part IMO

That's included. Basically the same team and to have that big of a drop year-to-year? I'm willing to give him a few years, no one gets it right right away unless they walk into the Pens.

As weird as this sounds with Bogosian, McCabe, Scandella, Risto, Dahlin (can stick up for himself), Sobotka, Okposo, Girgensons (if he’s still around), we have the most toughness in the Atlantic excluding Boston.

Not many at all. Winning a lottery does wonders.

And it’s great the other team is Toronto

I still really like the bolts for the next 6 years

jets short term, could change to long term in a few months with right management

panthers, blues have a nice mix of younger guys and deep prospect pool

but yeah we are sitting pretty

imagine if murray picked someone other than nylander in 16

I like Gerbe’s new approach and I’m using my own version.

Even with Ion.

who is our most physical player in the top 9????

eichel?

this is what worries me when the team makes the playoffs

- homiedclown

This is a smart post.
Spot on.
Physicality means quite a bit in the playoffs...not so much during the 82 game regular season.

Very good post...
Your main houghts are spot on, the details are slightly off.

That false narrative is a trigger f or me I guess.

You can add Tage Thompson as well.
In time, he will become the new target of fans rath.

Personally, I cant understand why one would throw away a natural advantage such as using their size to add an element to their game.

Chara is a guy who has mastered leveraging it and not beinv a goon in doi g so...although he does get away with alot of stick infractions where his stick is up in others guys faces regularly.

EXACTLY!
Hence why they were fans watching the Stanley Cup...particularly Tampa.
Caps took Kuch and Stammer out of the last three games with physicality from several players led by Ovi, Wilson, Oshie and others folled suit.
It was said down here going into the playoffs...Lightning lack of strong physical play was a threat to them advancing all the way.

I remember watching a 19 yr old Ryan Nugent Hopkins who liked like he had AIDS out muscle Myers of the puck and thought that maybe Myers wasn’t the 2nd coming of Chara after all.

Hedman isn't even much of an intimidating figure physically. Probably Yanni Gourde from TB will hit you the most and be the most aggressive. I love that kid.
The complaint here in Tampa after Washington knocked them out of the playoffs was that they were pushed around the ice with no push back. That seems to be the way to beat TB in a 7 game series. They didn't really pick anybody up to help on that front this offseason either.

Tampa and Toronto. That’s basically it for me. If Dahlin and Mitts live up to their potential though they could move to the top.

Kuznetsov had one of the best individual playoff performances of the last 15 years. Ovechkin was so lethal he still managed to win the Conn Smythe. Carlson was fantastic. The Caps won the cup becuase their best players were their best players in the playoffs. Even with all the above stated they were possibly a Holtby paddle save along the goal line from Stanley Cup heartbreak again. Then we’d be sitting here talking about how an expansion team won with speed and good goaltending.

They need to live up.

However, if they do, we are a more balanced team than Toronto without the cap issues...and we're much younger than Tampa. I really see us trying to be Tampa II.
