Kuznetsov had one of the best individual playoff performances of the last 15 years. Ovechkin was so lethal he still managed to win the Conn Smythe. Carlson was fantastic. The Caps won the cup becuase their best players were their best players in the playoffs. Even with all the above stated they were possibly a Holtby paddle save along the goal line from Stanley Cup heartbreak again. Then we’d be sitting here talking about how an expansion team won with speed and good goaltending. - Pegullaville
Those things happen in sports...the "luck" element.
Although luck is often described as when planning and preparation meet opportunity.
And YES, the Caps best players were the best performers in their playoff run, no doubt.
However, in that run during the Lightning series they played an absolutely beastly physical style that took out the Lightnings best two players in the last three games to advance to the finals.
Hence why the Lightning lack of meeting that level of physicality was a primary reason why they lost...it wasn't a secondary reason....Kuch and Stammer shied away from going to the boards to gather the puck and set up plays...it was very, very noticeable and much different than the norm for them.

They need to live up.
However, if they do, we are a more balanced team than Toronto without the cap issues...and we're much younger than Tampa. I really see us trying to be Tampa II. - RhinoFan
For theoretical purposes:
Eichel= Stamkos
Dahlin= Hedman
Kucherov= ? (Skinner is our best chance of a legit scorer but not in the same stratosphere of Kuch)
Point = Mittelstadt

As weird as this sounds with Bogosian, McCabe, Scandella, Risto, Dahlin (can stick up for himself), Sobotka, Okposo, Girgensons (if he’s still around), we have the most toughness in the Atlantic excluding Boston. - Pegullaville
Is he tough? 1 NHL fight in 5 years. Not much of a bone-crushing hitter either. I'd put Bailey in for him if that's what you're looking for.
The D has plenty of backbone though, for sure. Risto, Bogo, McCabe, even Guhle throws some good hits. |

We need a Kuch. Eichel can be our Stamkos hopefully, Dahlin our Hedman, Mitts I think will be a bit better than Point, maybe not right out of the gate but long term. From there, if Skinner, Reinhart, Sheary or possibly Nylander can all be solid contributors, we might be able to make up the difference in depth of not having Kuch.
If we are talking the next 8 years, we will have additions to our group. Not that Tampa won't add, but with cap issues, they'll lose something. We won't necessarily be losing too much in the foreseeable future. |

Vogl has a pair of nice write ups on The Athletic with interviews from Kim Pegula and Eichel, both worth a read. There aren't any real tough questions in either of them, but with Jack's, and this is sorta what I got out of it, is that he is more than ok with ROR getting traded. And, I think he threw a dig at him by specifically mentioning "influencing the room in a positive way"

It'll be nice to watch some football, but anyone who takes it seriously should be punched in the throat. Just remember, everyone. Preseason does and will never equal season. |

You literally have 1 million dollars that your family gave you. Use $40 and buy a year membership.
Kim Pegula's is especially long. As with most other things, I was cautiously optimistic when Kim became president of both teams, but this write up gives me more confidence she knows what the (frank) she's doing, and when she doesn't, has the humility to ask. |

I’m not trying to be negative but they’re kids that want to learn this craft of reporting and all this is doing is preventing kids from learning that .
The only audience they’re getting right now is probably the older crowd there’s no way kids in middle school or high school are paying for this
Just my opinion |

ROR was at the Band of Horses concert in Buffalo last night. My SIL met him. Had a lot of nice things to say about the city and the people, and he did some pretty goofy stuff with her friends |

Athletic is the best $4 a month I’ve ever spent. It is 1000x better then any hfboard or any other poster on this site sans Pach. The only reason I ever come on this site anymore is to read this blog and talk hockey in the comment section. |

Anyways hopefully in the article it talks about Jack Eichel taking the next step of having the C on his chest
I was hoping we would have an announcement already but maybe that’s for training camp now |
