I remember having this argument with ppl when Myers signed the long term deal and i thought he should’ve gotten a Luke Schenn type bridge deal

Let’s say Sam does really well during a 2 year bridge deal
What’s he scoring? 60-65pts?
Ok...
what does that get him for a long term deal in 2 years?

How much?
And how many years?

- jdfitz77

I think that will be dependent on expansion, a potential lockout, his performance and the overall salary cap. However, I think that the cap is going up and I think player salaries will be expanded again with the new CBA. More buyouts, but also higher cap. If that's the case, 60-65 points could very well get him 7-8M in a couple years I'd imagine, perhaps more.

Any contract can turn sour. We've certainly had our fair share, but after seeing 2 1/2 years of solid play from him, I feel comfortable he will be right around a 65pt player. If that's the case, 6M now, long term, is a good deal regardless of the lockout or other variables.

We don’t know. The certainty is the motivation to get the long term deal done now.
- Der Kaiser

I’m just trying to play it out...
Bc ppl insist that we save $$$ signing him longe term NOW

Just 6mil for 8yrs now
Equals 48mil total over the next 8 years

OR

Let’s say 5mil for 2yrs
Then 7mil for long term
Sound fair?
Over 8 years, that equals 52mil

That’s ONLY a 4mil difference,
or .5mil per season savings if u average or out

NOT ACTUALLY THAT MUCH SAVINGS

Give him a bridge deal
His first half last year was concerning
And I’m a Sam supporter

I’d have done a bridge deal with Jack too

2 years
Under 5mil per

He had a brutal first half last year
And has little leverage since teams don’t actually sign guys to offer sheets

More to come

not sure what is worse, you having to move across country

or myself having to gut job a house 5 miles away and then move a house and 330 fish tanks, while keeping a full time job and business

My offers to Reinhart:

1 year, 4.5
2 years, 4.75
8 years, 4.9 - pretty much what Kaiser said. You talked me into it

Moving across the country isn’t too bad, just expensive

I just moved from Albany NY to Austin Tx and it was relatively painless outside of lease breaking fees

Tom Wilson signed for 5.1 million is 24 and has 104 career points in 390 GP, Sam Reinhart is 22 and has 140 career points in 249 GP.
I don't see how Reinhart comes in at less than 6 mill on any sort of deal.

I wouldn’t offer him 7mil NOW
Was just saying what he might get after a bridge deal

Your 1 & 2 year deals are fair imo
Most I’d go on a long term deal is 5.5mil

If all Sam is asking for is 5.75 long term,
then i bet we could get him for 5-5.25
I’d be ok with that

Wilson’s deal is universally seen as quite the overpay
Bad comparison

Interesting point in that it really depends what Sam wants for a long term deal. If it's 5.75 and he can be had for 5, then you do it. I was saying under 6 I'd be happy, but you are right in that if he's looking for 7 or somewhere close to it, show me is in order.

The deal is signed I would assume his agent would use that as a comparable, whether its a fair deal or not I think that sets a certain precedent for guys his age.

If a 5-5.5ish long term deal can be had,
it makes sense

Otherwise,
Just wait on a long term deal

With a lockout looming,
it just makes sense to wait if we can’t get him on a good deal

There’s plenty of other more reasonable deals to point to though

Wilson’s is an anomaly

As long as the city brings in teh talent. the culture will be fine.

Maybe the city should tank for a year to get a high level prospect.

Maybe someone sprinkles some magic dust on nylander between being on his phone at prospects camp to being a top 6 nhl player in 3 or 4 weeks.

The odds of the Sabres hitting on all of their tank 1st round picks is stacked against them.
