No it's not, it increases your odds when you tank. To get one of the best players later in the draft requires great scouting and luck. You have a better chance with tanking, which Benning is fully on board with. - LeftCoaster
I would rather rely on great scouting than the luck of a lotto ball

Those odds have definitely helped a lot of teams. |

I don't see him as a generational player either just a very good one. I don't think he is as good as Quinn IMO - VANTEL

So.... if jack is beagle, you're saying that Quinn is Gaunce? |

He's due 3.6 million over the last 3 years of his deal. He can simply retire. |

Yup all great player but Dhalin will surely be the best of them all. - LeftCoaster
And Maybe Ty Smith has a great career, but Zadina probably registers more career points. And yes Webber and Keith were taken in round 2, but there is a reason that we all want the team to draft BPA, because those players are found above the next best player available.
The Canucks never tanked, they just weren’t good enough. This year will be different, they now have the kind of veteran leadership that encourages winning, and the young guys to back it up. The Canucks are going to surprise a lot of people this season. |

We are well past that point now. We'll be picking 5-10 for the foreseeable future we'll just have to make the best of it.
Picking 10th next year. - LordHumungous
This team is worse than last year, at least on paper. They'll be a bottom team just like last year. If they don't beat the Oilers last game they finish tied for 4th last. |

If he retires the Canucks get stuck with the majority of the recapture penalty, because they were paying him $10m and his cap hit was only $6 (ish)m. Not that it matters, they have plenty of cap space now and over the next four years. |

He almost beat Mathews point record as a 16 year old..... he has McDavid speed and hands. But McDavid isn't as good as Mathews so that's a moot point. - Pres.cup

What? I was agreeing with you, the best players come from the top of the draft. Picking 1st is better than 5th and picking 5th is better than 10th.. |

If Florida don't want him on the books. You trade Gaunce for him and then Van puts him on LTIR for the rest of it. |

If he retires before his last 2 seasons it's 4.2 for two years, before his last season it's 8 million for 1. That 8 million could be tricky. |

Tanking or losing purposely when all hope is lost mid January got the Canucks Pettersson, it got Buffalo Dhalin, it got the Leafs Matthews, it got a bunch of teams a bunch of good players. |

He didn't leave under the best of terms, he will retire in the years and leave us with a 8.5 million penalty. |

None, because the players want to keep playing but their injuries (sports related) keep them from playing. But Golfsy was suggesting there was little term left and if he simply retired it wouldn’t matter, which it would. Lu will keep playing, so it won’t matter. |

I am not sure the NHL wants to open a can of worms by signing off on contracts and then fining them for illegal practice. I am not sure that would stand up in court?
They are probably telling the teams to put them on LTIR |

It's a different situation and until it passes I think you still have to account for it as management. |

To far vintsy, current veteran leadership it's's not as good as last year's, but Bunning is crazy so it'll work out |
