I’m sure Benning and Weisbrod are in communication with Lu’s agent on a regular basis. They have a long term plan and are executing it to a tee. Not weighing the team down with extra picks in the later rounds over the first few years was genius, so the actual quality prospects had room to grow into their roles without the worry of too many contracts, or too much congestion on the farm team.

Ahh, but what is the common narrative in hockey circles about FLA, ARZ etc?

It doesn’t matter what is true, only what people perceive to be true. This place is a great example of that.

We have had a plethora of first over all picks , I am not sure we need more
- VANTEL

Van just needs to keep picking at 5oa. It's better then 4oa. Don't want to be picking at 8 or 10. 12-13-14 are all good picks. 15 isn't a very good pick. 19-20 23-24-26. 25 and 29 aren't very good places.

I think Beagle will be the #2 C by Christmas time. Sutts will stop scoring every second game by then and Greener will put him on the mentoring line. That being said, they will still be a wild card team for the playoffs.
- Marwood

I hadn’t considered that, great point! Definitely, I don’t think they are at a point where they will be challenging for top 3 in the division just yet.

I seriously doubt he will stay on the bench. I think he would opt for LTIR as you mentioned.
- VANTEL

LTIR, why not right? how many other jobs can you go on sick leave, disability or whatever and take another job?

Isn't Pronger on ltir or was and worked for the league at the same time?

LTIR doesn't stop you from doing whatever you want.

Health, lucky bounces and some fair reffing and I wouldn't rule it out.

He is indeed employed by the NHL as he abuses the recapture fine. I will worry about that joke clause if it ever actually happens

Edit: His contract expired 2 years ago but he is still employed with the NHL Panthers and was previously with NHL board of discipline

Historically, players picked at No. 12 in the NHL Draft usually don’t end up with their NHL time right away in their first season, but that could be a possibility when it comes to New York Islanders 2018 first-round pick Noah Dobson. The 18-year-old prospect showed off his skills with a dominant performance at the World Junior Showcase for Canada by posting five goals in three games. The Athletic’s Arthur Staple (subscription required) writes another impressive showing at training camp in front of coach Barry Trotz could force the team’s hand to keep him, considering the team’s lack of depth on defense.

It's a different situation and until it passes I think you still have to account for it as management.
- golfingsince

Good management, yes. Bad management carries 12m in dead weight when that potentially comes to a head.

Those odds have definitely helped a lot of teams.

He didn't leave under the best of terms, he will retire in the years and leave us with a 8.5 million penalty.

Odds keeping getting better that they will win it eventually. We'll see in the next few years. Fingers crossed.

Thats what a 6/49 player thinks.
Parlays are a fools bet.
Odds don’t get better.

Unless you aggregate the draft over multiple years, then the odds are better with each successive year.

All of this early 2019 draft lottery talk is really annoying to me.

1) This team will be faster and bigger this year

2) Green will adjust after his first season as a NHL HC

3) I doubt the team will get hit as hard by injuries this year

4) Sedins were addition by subtraction as they were on their last legs.

5) Added Pettersson, Roussel, Beagle and Schaller up front.

6) Virtanen, Horvat, Boeser, Pouliot, Granlund, Leipsic, Goldobin, Stecher, Hutton, Gaudette, etc will all be a 1 year older.

7) Pettersson is an early calder favourite, Juolevi, Gaudette and maybe Demko should join the big club at some point this season.

Time for us fans to show this team some damn respect, already looking at top 5 picks next year is a slap in the face to them.

How is this team worse than last year? They're deeper and will likely be healthier.

Well with the type of fans we have it doesn’t register through their thick skulls.
Around the NHL fans don’t hate the Canucks they hate our fans. I wonder why that is? Smug maybe? Wannabe losers?
